Default Fuel filler hatch drain?

I was working on my 928 this afternoon [yet again in 45C heat] and this time wanted to take a look at the fuel pump and kit in that area. The cover plate has two nuts to hold it in place and one of them had a pipe attached to it- when I removed the nut this pipe "dropped off".

I am not 100% sure what this pipe is [was] but I suspect it drains any fuel overflow whilst refuelling onto the deck and thus stops it dribbling down the body work. A look in the fuel hatch showed the sleeve to be split and a hole at the base so I am pretty sure this is what it is- just like to make sure I am not missing something here.

Regards

Fred

Fred,
that sounds correct.
Mine runs from the nipple of the fuel filler boot (attached by small hose clamp) down and across behind the tyre to a rubberised clamp on the tank guard. Well positioned to collect all the crap coming off the tyre.

Yes that's right. Mine dropped off as well, have been running without one for a few years.

Any pics? Mine just dropped down the inside of the fender.

Often the boot around fuel filler is cracked in half as mine was and lets the pipe fall straight down inside the fender so that it just hangs there. You can replace the boot and reconnect the pipe. It should work as designed.

David,

That just about describes it perfectly- yet another piece of kit to replace or refurb somehow- the joys of 928 ownership! Repair or be careful when filling!

Thanks for the various inputs

Fred
