Porsche 914 Restomod Transcends 914-ness

914 restomod

This used to be a 1974 Porsche 914. Presumably, when it was new, it was a great little car, and not just because it was born in the same year as Nickelback singer Chad Kroeger. However, unlike Kroeger, this car has been thoroughly restomodded to where it’s barely holding onto that 914 identity.

I have nothing but love for the 914. As a little guy, it was one of the first cars that ever spoke to me. But Canepa Collection‘s masterpiece transcends its 914-ness.

After 22 months of metalwork, she still retains just enough of those classic 914 lines, along with the addition of 935-inspired lights, and 916 nose and tail replicas.

“With the bodywork headed to the stratosphere it made sense to step up and make the drivetrain as spectacular as the body,” Canepa says on their Vehicle Overview.

So they dropped in a 3.2 Carrera long block rebuilt to stock specs, which replaced the 2.0 inline six that replaced the original engine. Mate that to a “modified late 915 transaxle with WEVO side-shift linkage,” throw in Weber 40mm triple throat carbs and PMO intake manifolds, and you’ve got yourself transcendence in the form of 200 hp, 197 lb.-ft torque, and a transcendent ride that only weighs 2150 pounds.

There’s plenty more details over at Canepa Collection, so head on over there for the full scoop. Then let us know your thoughts!
