Default Fie and a Pox on Pirelli P-Zeros

Yowza, looked at my tires today on the rack. Less than a thousand miles on these Pirelli P-Zeros.

Yes, I admit they were pushed hard at the track, but sheesh! Two track events only.

I'm going to try some Bridgestone Potenza S-02's and see how that works out.

That is a strange place for them to wear. Over inflation?

Probably got them too hot.

I can't help much though, not a tire expert.

Take care,

Yep, too hot is correct diagnosis. I ran them at about 32 PSI on the track two weeks ago, so I don't think over-inflated at all. Checked the pressures before and after track every session.

Well, you're probably over-working the tire. I'll preface this again by saying I'm not in any way a tire expert.

Interestingly, your tires must remain pretty flat through the corner. But what's odd is that only the central ridge shows signs of over-heating, no where else. It doesn't even 'fade out' to the shoulder. Strange.

Is there a difference between the left and right? Compare your finding to whether the track is clockwise or counter-clockwise. (Most are clockwise, Laguna Seca isn't). Difference front and rear?

Is traction control kicking in and braking different wheels? That might be getting them hot as well.

Might need some track tires that you put on at the track? You have to heat cycle them properly first, or this same thing can happen.

Are you driving like Ken Block out there? Lol. Might need to back it off a bit. Has anyone behind you noticed you're excessively sliding the car or anything?

Take care,

Had identical wear on my rears (OE, N spec) after ~ 6K street miles, 2 track days and a dozen AXs. I attributed mine to overinflation at the time (36lb hot), though tread depth was pretty even.
Good excuse to get rid of them.
