eBay Warning!

eBay Warning!
In the last week, I have been looking for rims on eBay for my 91 S4. I had come across one auction on C2 rims where the price was too good to be true. The seller indicated that the wheels were in Toronto and were from a '94 C2 RSR. After much back and forth, the wheels are in Romania and he cannot phone me because his cell phone doesn't work. Nor can he provide me the part numbers of the wheels or the serial number of the C2 RSR from which they came. The clincher was that the pictures he had used were from the Wheel/Tire link on www.911pcar.com, a Los Angeles Porsche wrecker. I happened upon this site in my search for wheels last week and my jaw hit the ground when I saw the exact same pictures that he had used. He quickly cancelled the auction once he thought he had me and tried to close the deal off of eBay.
This week, he's back at it with pictures from the same site. The auction number is #2909812352 for a set of 911/996 Turbo Twists (US$230!).
What got my interest was that the wheels were identified as being in Toronto, United States!

FWIW, I asked what the offsets and part numbers were, and received this:
Dear sir,
when i made the title i made a mistake the wheels are Turbo Techno style 18" and the part number is:# 993.362.140.00.
Please check with your Porsche dealer if they fitt on your Porsche and after mail me asap to close the deal.
Regards
The email is from bucur aurel at "wheels4porsche@yahoo.com"
BTW, that part number is a 10x18 wheel Turbo wheel. All four the same size?

If it's the same guy, he used the same line about closing the deal asap in emails to me last week. He was anxious, it seemed, to close the deal off of eBay. I emailed him last night saying that I had reported the two suspicious auctions to eBay.
In my emails to him last week, his emails used the name Dahma Soubhi but he then disclosed his name as Popescu Vicentu (spelling?) and said Soubhi was his associate. The name he gave Bill, Bucur Aurel, is of Romanian origin, if I'm not mistaken. If he's not the same guy I dealt with, he's at least following the same MO! The plot thickens...

FWIW, the offset of this wheel is 40 mm. It was originally installed on the 993 Turbo's rear axle. Could only be used on the 993 widebody cars.

There has been a simialr scam with a person selling HRE wheels on EBAY. he lists them for $1000 a set w/ an unofficial buy-it-now price of $1500. All you have to do is wire the money to Grenada and then he'll ship the wheels. Right!! He steals other users feedback to make himself look like a power seller w/ lots of good press...but its all a scam. Beware. I have seen them resurface over and over in the past few months....

dave w i know exactly who you are talking about and he says he's located in the uk. i wanted to buy rims from him and offered him $2500 even if he would use escrow and he kept insisting on bank wire transfer and everything. so i knew it was a scam.

Said he had a dealership that was being remodeled and was getting rid of misc. items.
I've emailed him numerous times and it's always the same, "they're on the way..." Yeah... Right.
Fortunately it's only a $150 bucks, so I'm out very little.
Never bought from Ebay, but have sold a few parts from Rennlist, 911 Turbo Board and Corner Carvers that were accurately described with no problems.
As always, "Caveat Emptor"
