For the money you can't beat them....
I have a set and after driving my car, my dad got a set, are they as sticky as SO3's, no, but do you need tirest that are that sticky?
Unless you have money to burn, buy the Kuhmos

I installed these about 2 weeks ago and think they are great, very quiet and grip very well,I do not think you will find a better tire for the money,I am running 225/45-17 in front and 255/40-17 in the rear, mounted, balanced, road hazzard warranty and tax for less than $650.00!!!

Good decision, my friend runs Kuhmos on the road and track, run them on the track. These are super tires. I am going to put Kuhmo street tires on when it is time to unload the Bridgestone SO2s.

Martin,
Are you saying that you'd get the 712's for street tires? If so, they are good for the money but nothing like the S-02’s, which, IMHO, are not that great. Also, they howl like crazy when you're turning.

No question about it... the Kumho Ecsta 712's are a better perfoming tire than my Yoko AVS Sports, Michelin's, and Bridgestone's in the wet and the dry and for half the price. They are on my Bimmer and going on my 993 very soon to replace my Dunlop (Done Slops).

For the money, the 712's can't be beat, *however*, if money is not a major concern or if you have been using some of the max performance tires before, don't bother with the 712. I've had three sets of S-02s and recently tried out the 712's for a local shop. I dislike them greatly. The sidewall feels very soft, however the ride is very bouncy and stiff (I don't understand it either!). The grip is poor in the cooler weather and even in the rain, my 944 Turbo S will spin the rear tires in 3rd gear when I hit boost. With S-02's, even when they were well worn, I could still get full traction in 3rd gear in the rain.
I'm going S-03 next time, even if costs more. I mean, this is a Porsche and the only thing touching the road is the tires so why cheap out?

The drag run you see on the videos is on six year old all-season tires that were completely worn out (they were Goodyear M+S tires in 205/55R16). I think with some decent tires and the suspension installed, it should run mid 11's and the MPH should pick up 2-3mph.
I've now done about 40-50 1/4 mile runs and about 40 auto-x runs on the car and it has still held together somehow. Amazing for a 2.0L 4-cylinder.
We're just putting on big red brakes on the car in the next week or two.
Take care,

OK - got the Ectsa's on the car.
So far - I like em and what a bargain!
Ride - smoother
Grip - getting better but not as good as the AVS when new.
I changed back to 215's on the front (from 225's). Nice change - can feel the difference - you can feel more tire on the rear and turn in is lighter (I don't have power steering). Still not pushing to 110%, I'll be taking my time to get to know these boots.
Thanks for the input and advice.
