Question What's the best not-quite-max-performance summer tire?

We're putting about 20k a year on the Audi now, and I'm tired of paying for new summers every Spring. We've used the following, all stock size 225/45-17:

Pirelli P6000s (stock, crap)
Bridgestone RE070s (a bit too extreme)
Bridgestone S-03s (heavy feeling and noisy, but otherwise great)
Michelin PS2s (quiet and great ride, but sidewalls too flimsy for heavy Audi)
Yokohama ADVAN Sport (good feel/turn-in and reasonably quiet, but heavy and thumpy ride, worst treadwear of all)

I'd like to spend <$200 a tire and get ~25k miles for a change. Still want all the good stuff: great traction, sharp turn-in, quiet ride (and not just for the first few thousand miles).

What's the best of the second tier? Bridgestone RE750? Michelin Pilot Exalto PE2? BFG g-Force Sport? Something from Pirelli?

I like my Goodyear F-1 GS-D3s on my BMW. I have close to 30k on them. They are a bit noisy now, very much depending on road surface condition, but they were much quieter than my Michelins, are awesome in the wet, and the handling is very satisfactory.

Yokohama Avid W4S is my favorite for the money in the size. Priced at $101 each. Sorry for the late entry, give me a call if I can assist.

I really like the Falken FK 452. I have run them on my E55 AMG and I will replace with same kind. I live in FL and got over 20K miles on my rear set! As my set up uses diff sizes front to rear, I cannot rotate them.

Does anybody know anything about the Goodyear F1 Asymmetrics? Saw a tire test in a British mag called EVO(?) and it kicked everybody's butt, including the PS2, my personal favorite. First in dry and very near top in wet. PS2 was close to top in dry, but mid-pack in wet. Don't know anything about the rep of the magazine, however.

The Goodyear is a new tire that we have not had a chance to test. We are looking forward to it getting warmer so we have the chance. Stay tuned.....
