Tire recommendations!
I got this from the weekend papers wheels section. It may be of interest.
Prices are in Canadian dollars for the Toronto area YPMV.

Q: tires for '79 911SC Targa P205/55/16 fronts and P245/45/16R rear.
A: There is not a huge selection available in this size, but what is available is very good. They range from the soft riding Michelin Pilot Sport to the very aggressive track-ready Toyo T1S.
The two newest tires are from the tuner end of the product lineup: Bridgestone's Fuzion and Yokohama's ES100. Both of these are price bargins. The Fuzion is the deal of the century priced at $141 street prices. Then the Toko ES100 at around $189 street in Canadian dollars.
There are also the Dunlop SP9000 at $263 street, the Toyo T1S at $268 street and the Michelin Pilot Sport at $296 street prices.
The most comfortable tire of the bunch is the Michelin. The best all-round performance tire is the Toyo. The best tire considering price and performance is the Fuzion. Its only downside is a very stiff ride and higher than average road noise.
All these tires work well in the wet, but keep in mind they are all summer high-performance tires.

I've been running the Fuzions on my 951 in 255-40 and 275-40/17 for about 4 months now and am still very impressed. These tires are quiet, dry grip is top notch plus wet grip is excellent. I especially like their resistance to hydroplaning and the predictable breakaway. BTW, I don't find the Fuzions stiff or noisey at all.
I've had the ES-100's on the N/A for 16 months and like the tire in the dry but as the tire ages I do not like the wet handling at all, they have moderate tire noise, and the accellerated tire wear I'm seeing at only 8K miles is not good at all. I have no track experience with either tire just very aggressive mountain driving.

What size rims are you running?
I'm getting ready to buy for my 951 myself, and have considered the Fuzions....
I have 17x9.5 and 17 x 8.5.
