Jonas, we'll at least check your rollers as best we can; mine were all fine when we did the belts in May, but then that one pulley tensioner started to go suddenly, but fortunately for me, slow enough to replace the bearings.

Socal, just wanted to make sure that the belts' life was okay if laying around. According to any owner's manual, with the belts on the car, 2 years or 60K whichever comes first.

Of course I didn't do that on my Sapphire blue baby, and why I think she's not been registered for a few years...guys, I really do want her back!

Never done one for an S and wouldn't try it unless its my own car. My 89 has an auto tensioner and I done all my early ones by hand tension without any problems. We need to put this thread back to the main forum to get more people involved if possible for maximum gains. It doesn't matter how many people watch us do it as long as they learn.

The only thing about the 'S' is the addition of the second cam and chain. Chain driven cams are old hat to me as I cut my teeth on Chevy sixes and early V-8's. Chain driven cams. Then there is all the farm equipment I've helped repair. Lots of chain drives.

The pad is available seperate. Have to search the threads. Most likely the pad is the only thing that needs replaced. Have to compress the hydraulic piston under the pad and slip the old one off -- new one on.

actually while we are in there i might end up calling my mechanic John Anderson, because as far as i know, my chain tennsioner is not tennsioning at the moment... he told me it was broken last time he was in there, but that it could be fixed really easily... I just didn't have the money for him to do it last time... So thats a possibility.... As far as replacing the pads, once we have the tennsioner out its gonna be sooooooo easy to get the pads on and off... thats not a problem... the problem is where to get the pads... I'll ask under general discussion...

Try to get a list together of your concerns and post it here in advance of any get togther. Don't need surprizes. Although I know we will find some.

How can we get this, or a link back to the main thread!? There's an awful lot here more than Regional! I think this has isolated us.

It's not working because it is hard to find.

You can see how the # of posts dropped off after it got moved. And if people turn off the e-mail reminder of a new post, I bet it would fall of the face of the earth altogether.

Unfortunately; I had a hard time finding it when it was moved myself!

Sorry, Jonas; great idea, but for some reason it isn't working that great on Rennlist.

hello everyone, i too like the idea of a maintenance party. has there been a date established?
i work in a motorpool( army garage), i have access to a lot of tools.
torque wrenches from 0 to 350 ft/lbs 3/8;1/2/1 inch drives
metric/ standard socket and wrenches.
personally i have a lot of tools. to include an air compressor and air tools
oxy/acet torch
but the main thing i don't have is a belt tensioning tool
if you guys come up with a tools list, i'll go ahead and start compiling it.
there is also a good chance that soeone might inherit the air compressor as i cannot take it to germany with me, so if any one would like it, i'll trade it for a good set of spark plug wires ,cap and rotor. just a thought or any other offers
i am currently statione in fort irwin 33 miles north of barstow but i occassionaly visit my parents in anahein

Carl,

Besides the air compressor I can take care of all of your other tools! Kind of a foster home for wayward tools!!!
