I found a 996 that looks good and I'm getting a PPI done on it tomorrow. I know the IMS hasn't been done, and I was assuming it's around $2500 to do the job.
Well, the shop doing the PPI says that doing the IMS and RMS is more like $3500, and if you want to do the clutch, it's another $1500 in parts, the labor is the same.
So I'd be looking at $5k for all that. Ouch.
I know labor is expensive here. I also know that prices vary, and while some shops double the cost of parts to cover their overhead, some don't.
So for big jobs like this, where is the sweet spot of price and quality? Is it worth going out of state (like Reno, or Phoenix) for something like this?
I know, it takes time, and time is money. I'm just wondering.

In the South Bay (San Jose / Santa Clara / etc.), Porsche-Specialist Indy rates vary from $150/hr on the low end to $190/hr on the upper end. As regards the effort for a particular job, quite a few use All-Data as the starting baseline to estimate the effort - https://www.alldata.com/
Dealer rates in this area were $225/hr back in 2019, but that may have gone up since then. I generally use Indys, but I do know people who use the local Dealers, and they do get some discounts if you're a regular customer with them. But if you walk in off the street for a one-time job, you're probably not going to get that.

Great guy that works there. Does quality work. Mild drive for you South Bay/Fremont people, but gets the job done right! He also does custom work as well.
