Default SF Bay Area - 12-14" Garage door track lift

In order to put a 4 poster lift into my suburban garage I'm gonna need the garage door tracks (and associated apparatus) to be lifted about 12-14". I'm scouting companies that might take on the job but encountering refusals and reported lack of experience with such a project. I'm wondering if anyone in the Rennlist Bay Area community has had a local company do a similar job for them or a known acquaintance. Would appreciate any recommendations and/or related guidance. I'm in Concord.

This is an interesting problem to solve. I am assuming you have a typical segmented garage door... how much space do you have from the existing track location to the ceiling? The geometry is critical for proper function, you may need to replace the entire door. I went that route, replaced my garage door with traditional bi-fold carriage doors that open outward from the garage.

Bi-fold doors, manual operation? Or run on tracks at top/bottom?

Yep, have typical segmented doors. Have about 25 inches from top to horizontal track rail to to top of ceiling. Should be more than sufficient to move whole assembly up about 14 inches. From what I see, this should not be a big problem to accomplish with the only real hurdle being how best to extend the existing vertical track rails another roughly 14 inches. The question is whether that would be thru an additional spliced segment or replacement of the original vertical segment with a new longer one.

Another photo. Also had them get rid of the old garage door opener and move to a side opener. I wish they had gone a tad bit higher. Name: photo338.jpg

Thanks for info and pics on your Contra Costa Door installation. Very helpful and appreciated. I've made an appointment with them for Monday AM. Will keep the thread posted on the results. Stay tuned!

bifold, manual operation because I don’t use the garage on a daily basis. Our property configuration is a little weird and the garage sits at roughly a 25% angle to the driveway.

Had the pro from Contra Costa Door Co. do an assessment of my garage door configuration and give me a quote for what it would take to relocate my horizontal tracks upward about 18" overall. Looks like my only real option is to go with an installation that basically mimics the installation that soon2be993TT depicts and describes above. I fully understand what they are recommending and what constraints force me to install basically a complete new garage lift while using my existing doors. As a result, their quote is significantly more than I expected but the gear package and labor are more extensive that I originally anticipated as well. So I've put the project on a side burner for the time being but will likely make this installation happen in the next few months.

Yea, mine coincided with a minor garage remodel (built out an attic, put in all new cabinetry, etc). But yea, it wasn't cheap. I decided to keep my existing door when I got the quote, vs replacing it which was in the original plan.
