Looking to start doing HPDE, or need a more competitive race car? This 944 has enough go fast, suspension, and safety parts to make this car equal parts both fun HPDE car -and- competitive race car.
I’ve tracked a lot of cars - Mercedes AMGs, BMW Ms, Suzukis, VW, Miatas, BMW Exx, Formula Ford, and other Porsches - and by far this Porsche 944 has been the most fun to drive.
If you know Motor Werks Racing, the Georgia shop who built and currently maintains the car, then you know this is a high quality 944. In addition to all the custom engine work, highlights of the overall package include the full weld-in cage and the MCS damper & coilover system. The MCS’s and other highly adjustable suspension components allow tuning of the car’s handling characteristics to driver skill/preference, track layout, and other conditions. The result is faster laps.
This setup has already delivered with multiple podium finishes, and a NASA GTS1 track record at Road Atlanta (1:45.855 back in 2013). I’ve only driven the car in HPDEs lately, four HPDE events in 2015 and five in 2016, for ~90 hours on the engine since race-spec build. MWR replaced the rod bearings in Sep. 2015.
Maybe you're thinking about a 1.8t engine conversion? With the MCS’s, cage, and big brake kit already in place, this 944 could also be a good candidate for install of one of the 1.8t conversions that are becoming available.
