Best of luck to them. Made my day.

I picked this up years ago before the feeding frenzy.
Original Black Plate CA car with detailed records to '67 and all owners accounted for. Dusty-dry no rust inland N. Cal car. 5 original not-replated-as it came 4.5 chrome wheels.

Futile.

Driving one of these is the best lesson in 911 handling dynamics.

The new ones are child's play by comparison.

Especially the pre-69 because of the shorter wheel base.

The best way I can think of to describe it in handling terms is it's a 1968 GT3. Such a go kart

Go kart is about the last thing I'd compare it to.

I started out with a '68 faux S in '80 when I was 18, with merely two years of "driving" experience in a Scirocco. Turned it into a widebody track rat a couple of years later, so I only had minimal track experience with it in its original form. Mainly used it in the outlaw street race T&D road rallies of the day. Was continually warned my the know-it-alls in the club that I would wreck it. Never had a problem. Did leave the road, banging a front fender recon'ing a dirt rally stage up in the Mendocino Forest one time. Too many miles up in the East Bay hills driving completely stupidly to count.

Would love to have another in the collection, but the profiteers have sailed that ship..........

Great story, Ken. I started with a 914 at 17 waaay back in '74. Did some things in that I wouldn't consider these days. Invincible at that age. (And why insurance rates are higher for young men).

Truly unfortunate that not everyone will get to feel the vagaries of an early SWB car although if you put large enough tires on them they do quite well.

Here it is with "Deep" 6's and real 7R rears. It's a go kart in this configuration. The other way, not so much.
