This 2002 996 had approximately 115k miles on it when the timing chain broke. Not worth my having it repaired. Presently at a dealership in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The engine has been removed and disassembled sufficiently to determine that in addition to the broken timing chain, there is some scoring in the cylinder wall of #4 along with the sleeve of the corresponding piston. The exhaust system has also been removed to permit the engine to be removed. The car condition is in line with its age and mileage. There is no damage to any of the body panels but there is typical chipping and wear of the pant. Everything works fine, convertible top, AC, transmission etc. Transmission mount, oil separator, ignition coil packs, mass air flow sensor, were replaced in the last 10 k miles. New tires and new front rotors and pads in the last 6k miles. It has an after market radio, 18" premium light weight Porsche wheels. Price negotiable.

By the way, my son has two 998's and has been on Rennlist for years. He suggested I post my car here.

Son has 2 928s We are on the fence about fixing our beloved cab or selling it for what it is. Timing chain broke on the left bank and while the valves were fine, we found scoring on the #4 piston and wall, Porsche dealer wants to replace both sides of the case since "It's been superseded" so we are talking big bux to get it fixed (at the dealer). The car was mechanically perfect, new rotors and pads up front, new tires, it has the RARE light weight rims. New OAS, coil packs and mass airflow. The frustrating part is the car lost it's chain 1300 miles from home, Currently in Minneapolis, so the situation is a real pain. The plan is to sell it for right price otherwise we will just fix it. long story short, it's a 2002 996 tiptronic cab with a bad engine, here is a pic, (ill try to find more)
we would like to get $8900 for it

I would buy a good used motor as I do my own work so wouldn't have to pay labor= but still may be a good way for you to keep your car.
