Overall this car has been well cared for both cosmetically and mechanically. It's a blast to drive, it turns lots of heads and it'll even average 30+ mpg on the freeway if you're easy on it. However like most 944s you'll find of this age, it's no show car.
The car has had a pretty interesting history - it spent it's first several years in Germany (tourist delivery), then from 1988 and on in the US. I brought it back to life after it was stored away from 1997 until 2010, so the original paint and materials were well preserved.
It now has 176,XXX miles on it - largely from the original owner doing trips from Seattle-California.
I've put a lot of money into maintenance and have the receipts for all of the major work I've done to it. I've made it through most of the hassles that the 944s will throw at you, and I believe it will stay reliable for a quite some time.
Here's a quick list of the recent work (all within the last 12k miles):
Water pump
Timing belt, balance shaft, balance shaft seal
Clutch
Tires
Brake and clutch master cylinders
Front struts
Ultrasonic injector cleaning
Sunroof seal
Upgraded to 944 turbo sway bars
And of course basic tuneups and oil changes, etc.
A few blemishes of time: As expected for a vehicle of this age you'll have to check the oil level every couple refuels, but it's within the Porsche consumption spec of 1 L/1000km. It also has some small clear coat rock chips and a few dings that I'll be happy to show you. The paint on the sunroof is also starting to oxidize.
I think $4,000 is a fair price for the car given it's overall good mechanical and cosmetic shape- so we can start there. Let me know if you're interested or have any questions!

I am looking for a rust free, accident free, straight 944 with good interior with tight body seals and no water leaks. I will be having an engine swap to a chevy small block v8, do a complete repaint, upgrade suspension, etc. So looking for right, cheap car to turn into a long-term great screamer. Does your fit the bill and would you go a bunch less on the price? The interior looks nice in the pics.
