I had a brief PPI done on the car and pulled out my records to refresh my memory of history. The Good:
- the car was given an overall 9 for year and mileage
- exterior body flaws are hard to find - no body work evident
- the pistons and cylinders were replaced under warranty by Porsche at 53,701 miles on 10/01/98. I didn't own the car then - but it appears to be correction of the cylinder head issue some early 964's encountered.
- valve adjustment was done at 67,985
- no interior rips
The Bad:
- slight wear on driver's seat bolster
- cracked cooling air duct (part number 96410640302 - cost $154)
- minor oil seepage on the #1 cylinder side of the engine and oil seals
(the same seepage is noted on the receipt for the valve adjustments at 67,985)
- AC needs recharge
During the time that I've own this car I've driven it about 1000/year except the year I did my novice DE driving. That year the engine was bone dry - no seepage. Every other year the car had the minor drip. I've heard that running synthetic oil in the early cars can contribute to that - but I don't know b/c I've always run synthetic. The AC usually needs to be recharged about every 3 years - so it's due.

My plan is to replace the air duct part and recharge the AC. I failed to mention the original radio is gone - replaced with a Blaupundt Key Largo CD (Speakers were also changed but are fitted in the stock enclosure - no boxes or odd looking interior mods)
