Default winch for enclosed trailer

Looking for recommendations for which winch and mounting options for an enclosed trailer. I will be towing a 991.1.

I had a Smittybilt winch with wireless remote and synthetic rope. My new trailer is coming with either a Superwinch or Warne wireless control with over 5K LBS capacity.

Just make sure you get a synthetic rope and a wireless control. It makes things a bit easier.

I put a Harbor Frieght 5K pound unit in my trailer a couple of years ago working without issue pulling in a 2001 Cup Car at $179 not much of a gamble

Thanks for the info. Anything special about mounting it?

I welded an aluminum plate to the frame underneath the floor where I mounted the winch. Probably overkill, but cheap enough and gave me peace of mind.

We have ours in a recessed space under the floor in a metal box. This way we can lower the roller boom and close the door and we have a full floor.

Thank you. Did you build that or was it an option on the trailer?

Can you post some pictures of the framing to hold that winch box? I've thought about retrofitting something like that, but not sure how easy it would be if it has extra framing to hold it in place

Superwinch S5500 is designed for trailer use. All the "bits" are self contained in the winch, you just need to add 12v power.

On Amazon it appears that the 7500 version is cheaper - conflict in description regarding rope included between base and SR version.

way to go Toby. that's cheap.
Think carefully about where you place the winch in the trailer.
if the tow hook is off to the side, then that will make the cable bunch to that side. Get a Wireless Remote. worth every penny.
I would get a synth rope if I had to do it again, but they are expensive.
YMMV

Superwinch has the replacement 50' synth rope for ~$95. (if one can handle 5' shorter)

Plus I just found out that etrailer has a price pledge + 10% difference policy. That potentially could save another ~$30 of this winch. (free beer at track closing )

One thing to note on the 7500 vs the 5500, it's just a gearbox change, so the 7500 has a pull speed that is about 70% of the 5500.
