Has anyone built their own aluminum trailer ramps?
I'm tired of playing assemble-the-race-ramps and long for the days when all I had to do was open the door, release a strap and fold down my aluminum ramps.
Current car needs longer ramps so I am looking into building a pair that fold in the middle, each leg @ 6' each.
Welding guy thinks it can work.
Has anyone done this before? They would be made of aluminum and light enough to not make the rear door too heavy.

We have a Cup and have no issue with the Pitpal long ramps (single or dual). Sometimes just need to lift the front with the jack to reduce the angle. Also you should have the proper size rubber snubbers on the upper part of door when it opens.

But I'm hoping to avoid all of that. I just want long enough attached ramps.

Wouldn't see any reason why you couldn't. ATC has fabbed up plenty of extended sets for us for special uses, and so has our service department. They will be heavier than you think, however -- a pair of 14" x 84" extensions adds a considerable amount of weight to a ramp door.
Or you could always PM this guy :

Mine are pretty heavy, I just bought a sheet of aluminum 1/8 diamond plate 4x10, took it to a shop that sheared them into 2 with the angles I wanted (2 ~4ft wide ramps), build some structure under them and used the same hinge that came with the simple flap that was on the door. I also put a few more twists into the torsion bar that supported the door to account for the additional weight.

Our plan is to use a perforated aluminum but yes, weight will be key.
No sense swapping one problem for another.

One thing that will help with the weight is that I will remove the 2' full width flap that folds down from the door. Those are surprisingly heavy.
If we move forward I'll try to post photos and results.

East coast I would like a quote on an aluminum foldable ramp setup and maybe 4 to 6 inch rubber pads to change the height when on the ground and lessen the angle for a low nose car thx.
Pleased pm me.

That was a while ago when you saw those. Still have them and they will be re designed later this winter to be much lighter. Because I can. TIG welded too for better looking welds. I do like the look of those machined billet ramps, but their weight in the morning is very little and at the end of the day they are soo heavy............
