Default Aluminum race ramp extensions

My new to me 06 Thule came with this horrible heavy and short ramp extension sooo....
Cut up and welded together some aluminum bars. Milled out for a weight savings.

Flexible interlock for uneven ground. They interlock in 2 directions.

And here you have the result. Not easy to see but the load on the hinges is not much more than the weight of the ramps. Lip on hinge billit rests on flap transfering load of car to trailer flap.

Ummm...

... For the guy with either too much time, too much money, or a few thousand dollars of aluminum stock sitting around doing nothing.

Are you planning on loading an M1 Abrams into that trailer?

Makes pushing a kart stand into the back of the trailer impossible ...

BSE has a 'sliding' mount for their ramps which eliminate the fixed hinge mount.

Diamond plate and the stainless steel hinges were the only purchased materials. Bar stock was surplus inventory, and the CNC time was no biggie because I have huge amounts of open time on them. I tested the ramps without the bottom cord and they flexed about 5/8 with my ML500 at mid point. The 5/8 square stock more than doubled the strength of the ramps and added very little weight. I wish I did have too much time on my hands but I don't. I have had this trailer since April and this weekend was the first time I have used it because I could only work on them a few hours a day, or the occaisional Saturday. I started them in early May. I don't need a pit cart for autocross but can easily add a smaller fold down ramp between the other ramps.

We've got the BSE ramps. The sliding system worked well when new but eventually the bar got bent and it make sliding the ramps very difficult because it binds up. We actually cut the bars down shorter so the ramps have a lot less distance to slide but now they don't bind.
