Interesting tow mirror solution for my truck
My 2010 Ram 2500 was an off the lot purchase and had everything I wanted, except for the extending tow mirrors. Right now I'm only towing a 22 foot trailer and the stock mirrors do OK.
I'm going to be moving to a two car hauler in the near future so I started wondering about getting towing mirrors. Another RL'er recently pointed me to some aftermarket unit replacements which even have the power defogger that works. They are about 200-350 bucks depending on the brand.
I came across these bolt on towing mirrors that slide over the existing stock mirrors for 50 bucks on Amazon so I figured what the heck and bought them. They go on easily. I would say the fit is about 90% but they look just fine from most angles. They are adjustable and do provide a nice view 'further in back' of the truck. I think they will work well with the bigger trailer.
These particular ones are for Ram 1500/2500 chrome or black mirrors.
Here's the Amazon link and some pics.

Have you used them at speed yet? I tried several of these type with my BMW and they shake at speed and make it difficult to actually use them. These look like they secure to the mirrors pretty well.

The only downside I see with them is that the 'add on' mirror needs to be manually positioned which is not that big a deal.

I have something similar for my ram.

They are a little shaky at speed, but they work very well for the price. I'd buy them again for sure.

Good thread . . . we have used these type of clip on mirrors for 4 years towing a 24" enclosed . . . just got back from 2 hauls this year 1500 and 1000 miles . . . no problems - even driving thru LA . . .
We had a rear trailer camera for 3 years and that helped too . . . but it failed and we haven't replaced it yet . . . I don't miss the screen glare at night . . .
Before the next winter race season here in the desert I will probably replace the standard power mirrors with the 18" wide truck mirrors sold on Amazon . . .
Old guys eyes need more mirror . . . ha ha . . .

I had that style towing mirror on my old tow vehicle. They were basically fine. The only thing I didn't like about them though was that the mirrors didn't hold their position that well, which was a pain sometimes because I had to pull over to adjust them. I eventually used some hot melt glue to hold them in position, which worked OK.

I had something similar on my SUV and at speed they would fold my mirror in. It might be a good clue for me to slow the F down.

How much are the Oem tow mirrors? Have you tried sourcing them from a pick-n-pull type place? Are the Dodges wired the same no matter the mirror choice - I.e if you buy the Oem mirrors would they be plug n play?

It seems from the Dodge forums that you can indeed use them. I don't know if they are a perfect plug n play. The aftermarket ones I looked at have power defrost but it's unclear if the mirror movements have power or not.
