Default Trailer upgrade

I should say update rather than upgrade. I’ve had my thrifty steel enclosed trailer about 5 years now. I thought I’d share a mod I should have done a while ago.

I recently traded in my F150 Platinum for a Defender 110. It pulls great and with the air suspension I don’t have to dink around with an WD hitch. Which comes to the new add a new electric trailer jack. The spare on the Defender was kind of blocking the motion of cranking the jack, so this is my solution. Note I had to modify the position of the jack because it was almost touching the spare.

I’m really pleased with the upgrade and at my age it cuts the time loading and unloading the trailer.

you should relocate towards the back. when you reverse while turning, you may hit it

It actually looks kind of closer than it is in the pic. I’ll test it in the parking lot with some tight turns. I can also extend the hitch to the 2nd hole. Worst case scenario I’ll remove the spare.

I have a manual jack, but I moved it back towards the trailer v-nose so I can open the truck tailgate fully and not worry about denting the tailgate. It's worth moving it IMHO.

My door opens to the side, so it’s not really worth it to move it. I think I’d almost have to jack knife the trailer for the wheel to touch the jack, but I’m definitely going to check it.

Thanks

With my heavy steel trailer I had a manual jack. Cranking that in the run was no fun. Next truck had air suspension and i could lower it to bump stops.

Now I have a Cayenne and enclosed Trailex. Trailex came with an electric jack. Not really needed on such a light trailer - but I don't care. It's soooo nice to have. Push the button. Yawn....Wish I had put one on my old trailer.

Hatch on cayenne just barely clears though. I have a lightly longer hitch so the hatch clears.
