Default Which type of trailer to buy

I have been shopping for an inexpensive trailer for track days
and came across two types. Im not sure which is better. Is there any benefit to the wood deck? Negatives? What about the steel one?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Get an aluminum trailer. No corrosion, better resale value and much lighter.

What are you pulling with?
Will you be storing it inside or out? Wood will rot over time if stored outside.

If you can't find used Alum at that price, with a 4k budget, you can rent a lot of U-Haul/Penske car trailers and have zero maintenance / storage / insurance. Then save up for an enclosed used Alum.
If you stick with this DE thing, or go racing, you will end up with an enclosed Alum...

Sell it again for $5,000 when it comes to upgrade to your enclosed trailer.

Stay away from a wood deck, steel is fine. I use a steel trailer and have not any major issues with it, in fact it has been a great trailer for the last 9.5 years. I don't store it indoors and therefore I do check for rust, which has not been much of an issue to date. I did repaint the trailer once with Rustoleum a few years back as the paint was fading. As for resale, I have two friends that have offered me $2,500 for it, I paid $1,800.

2017 Tundra, storing outside.

As for the wood we use a lot of them for equipment at work and have no issues with rot. So not sure if they are made better since they are for equipment.

To Frank's point I bought an aluminum trailer from him years ago, put $250 dollars into the trailer, and several years later I sold it for what I paid Frank plus $250. As long as you don't abuse it you will always get your money back.

Also, the steps of trailer ownership are open steel, open aluminum, open aluminum with tire rack, enclosed trailer. Dig into the wallet, wait for a bargain, and skip the intervening steps!

Once you go enclosed you will never go back. All the stuff you need will always stay in there. Oh, piles of stuff you do not need will be in there too. Who cares.
You will have trailer stories no matter what trailer path you choose.
