Default Strapping tires to rack

Is this sufficient? Don't want these guys dropping on my car at some point...

If its me, I would run the strap through the spokes/centers of the wheels so there is no way they could fall even if the strap loosened slightly, and/or shifted.

+1. Trusting a strap to stay on top of something round while it vibrates and shakes going down the road is optimistic.

I sound like an echo, but what is pictured is simply not going to work.

Looks like there is a hook at the lower left corner of the wall mount to do exactly that.

That's what I do. I have a broom in my trailer and I use it to push the hook through the center of the wheels.

Ok here's attempt #2 - this I did strap through center as suggested but also did strap around. The strap around is actually much more secure feeling, the strap through center pulls the tires at an angle where they can slide out of the bottom of the rack backward (though seemingly they couldn't fall forward.) With the strap over the top I can shake the entire setup and it doesn't budge.

I love this forum... Real enthusiasts having discussions about transporting tires to the track.

Ha ha, great point! I'm still looking at those tire covers and thinking "wow, that's a lot of work".

The tire covers only take about 30 seconds to put on per tire, they keep all the chunks of rubber and gravel from getting everywhere, also protects them while in the rack.

Agree 100%...strap them through the wheels, or a rod through the centers with pins on either end.

The black strap through the center would hold the wheels/tires even if the fold-down shelf comes unhinged. The yellow strap through the center would not. Either should work, but strapping to the wall-mounted piece seems more secure. I can see why it's the intended retention location.
