Home charging question
So I was recently given the ChargePoint home flex when I purchased my taycan turbo. Have it set up at 50a (max 40a delivery). Plugged in today with 50% charge at 430 and the app was telling me that I would be at 100% charge by 1 am (which I thought was ridiculously long). Checked the app and car was getting 8.7kw which seems appropriate for 40a.
however, just now at 940 I got a notification saying my charge was complete. I wasn’t checking the app so didn’t monitor charge speeds but am very suprised at the variation in charge time estimate vs actual completion time. Don’t think my charger all of a sudden sped up. What am I missing here?

Porsche's in-car charging software, it's configuration, function and general operation is one of the most confusing EV's on the market - there is a great video showing how Profiles and Timer's work I'll try and find it.
this thread will get you started - https://www.taycanforum.com/forum/th...d-timers.6799/

Cool thank you. I think all the charging profiles are off. But I’ll double check. Might have to do with the charger settings as well.

- 100% should _NOT_ be your daily charge target 80-85% is the recommendation for battery health longevity
- 100% is for the night before a road trip or when you _KNOW_ you'll need the extra 15%
- assuming your data is correct - you were at 50% and charged to 100% - car's usable capacity is 84.3 kW - so 50% of that is 42 kWh
- 42 kWh + 10% overhead to account for charging losses is 46 kWh consumed by the EVSE required to reach 100% battery capacity.
- 46 kWh / 8.7 kW = 5.2 hours required charging time
- 4:30 pm (when you plugged in) + 5.2 hours = 9:30 pm estimated completion time - you were notified about the car being charged 9:40 pm
in any case - math says your 9:40 pm my battery is charged is bang on accurate for 40 amp charge rate on a 50 amp breaker.
if you're running a pluggable ChargePoint Flex (vs. hardwired) please tell you got the memo to make sure your electrician installed a Hubble commercial grade socket vs. a $12 NEMA 14-50/6-50 purchased at home depot. This is EV industry best practice in North American and specifically called out by name by Porsche's own EVSE install documentation.

as to why the car/app said 1 am - I'm going to chalk that up to Porsche's software excellence - it won't be the last time there is a software glitch in a Porsche product.

post #13 has a photo of "hubble" socket - so you should be able to visually inspect the socket and look for the product name as noted in the photo - if it doens't look like the photo it's probably not a hubble socket and I _HIGHLY_ recommend paying to have it swapped out - EVSE's are unique home appliance in the loads they place on electrical infrastructure - you need/require a socket that won't degrade over time due to thermal stress from hours of running at a full 9.6 kW every day…

Rennlist is ****ing great! Thanks guys. The math makes sense which is why I was so confused.
thank you for clarifying.
need to chuck for a Hubble socket asap.
