Garage Door Openers

Just got my CT4 this week and was unable to find my original 1987 Genie garage door opener. E-mailed Genie to purchase a replacement and received a response that because it is so old and has no safety features, they are no longer providing replacements. I can hear the jokes that it’s about time you replace a 35 year opener, but it is all metal and built like a tank. The new Genies have lots of plastic and feel cheap. I’m looking for anyone’s suggestions on a replacement.

Did Homelink work on your last car with that door opener? Very impressive service life. I just had to replace my 17 year old Genie and I bought an Aladdin-enabled belt drive. It's slightly more powerful, quieter than my old screw drive, and surprisingly was less than I paid for the original!

Yeah, worked on my Acura TL and Infiniti G37 coupe without issue. Reading my post again it sounds like I don’t want to replace it, but I do. 35 years is a good run and I’m sure the newer models are better in many ways. I’ll check the Aladdin models out…

I bought the Genie model 3155 for a standard two car sectional door. I had to grab instructions for the Homelink setup on Porsche and Audi but everything went well when I took time to follow the instructions.
Best of luck with your project

As someone who has to setup my customers garage doors all the time, if you end up getting a new garage door motor, go liftmaster.
Easiest to program while still having good security.
Or a Sommer but they are quite tricky to program. had to make a video for people cuz I kept getting calls about how to program them LOL

Ended up getting a Chamberlin with wi-fi. Had to move the mounting brackets in the ceiling which was a bit of a pain because I had to take up plywood I’d installed for storage. Homelink in the car hooked up perfectly and as I’m pulling in the driveway, the center screen gives me the Homelink screen to activate the door. It has worked every time…35 years worth of technology
