And now for something completely different. This winter I moved 8500 miles for work. A lifelong Porsche fan (and owner) - when I landed in my new home in the Middle East, I immediately reached out to the local Porsche team here to see what might be arranged. Thankfully, at Taycan 4S was available, and my SA (another lifelong Porsche lover) was all too helpful in organizing the build and delivery process.
Fast forward to this weekend. Car delivered Friday and it exceeds all my expectations. I'm a 911 die-hard fan at heart - 993 for 18 years, and Carrera T since 2018 + 1973T (Coupe) + 1983 SC (Coupe) + 1990 Carrera 2 (Cab) along with my Father. Together we have owned Porsches for 50 years this year.
The Taycan is thoroughly Porsche.
Take it around a circuit (eghem...not going to say where) - at 9/10ths and it blows Tesla/Audi/BMW away. Not a professional, but I know how to drive ... put myself through college as a Porsche Tech, and used to road test old 930s when I was 17 y/o ... the Taycan 4S is an animal. How can a 4 door sedan, weighing 5100 lbs do this? It defies Physics (and I have a BSE in Physics/ME from Duke, and and MS in ME from Stanford!) I am totally blown away by the engineering in this car. Its really a 919 for the rest of us.
The gripes:
(1) Three Phase charging power -- with PMCC -- @50C ambient in the UAE / 32A it overheats -- reducing to 28A (18.5 kW) all is well
(2) Alignment on delivery was not right. This is something that should be 100% from Porsche ... granted ... my Carrera T in the US had the same issue so ....
(3) There is no 3. Wow.
I sincerely want to thank Porsche ME and the Abu Dhabi team that lead my experience. 1st Class all the way. Porsche really knows their customers, and I am a customer for life.
