Default Used Taycan considerations - Need tips

Greetings folks, I am considering getting a used Taycan since prices have been relatively decent lately (not sure if thats a good or bad sign). I had the following questions:
1) Is there significant difference in battery performance, or infotainment or any critical components between MY2020, MY2021 and MY2022?
2) If buying from a private seller with a 2-3years leftover factory warranty, are there warranty extension options? (Does Fidelity offer extended warranty on EVs?)
3) If Carfax is clean and car looks good cosmetically, is there anything that needs to be looked at during a PPI? Better yet, who even does PPI for these? (local Dealer told me they dont do PPI anymore for any cars)
4) Would having an Indy mechanic connect something like an ECU computer show anything meaningful in terms of abuse or errors?
5) Anything to cautious about apart from the obvious, like know issues with certain model years?

I would recommend finding a Taycan from single owner, always garaged, no accidents, full service records available, extended warranty plan included.

the 2020 models are lacking basic features. I wouldn't be interested in those early models.

Other than plug and charge there really aren’t any missing features from 2020 models. With the software update a 2020 is nearly identical to a 2023. I would recommend the 2020 as it will be the best value for what is largely the same car. Of course others who paid more for more recent models will feel differently..

I'm not familiar with basic features lacking on the 2020. I believe everything has been updated through software. Cosmetically and functionally, I think they are essentially identical.

Fidelity does offer coverage for EV's, Platinum being their highest level exclusionary policy, but I know exclusionary can be hard to grasp so here is the listed EV/Hybrid coverage mentioned in a lower tier, inclusionary policy (coverage default applies to the higher tiers as well). If you have any questions you can reach me at tgibson@highline-autos.com or (855) 924-1333

ADDITIONAL HYBRID/PLUG-IN ELECTRIC/COMPRESSED NATURAL GAS/HYDROGEN COMPONENTS: Motor/generator belt tensioner;
drive motor dampener; voltage inverter reservoir; three-phase high voltage cables; hydraulic or electric regenerative braking system; hybrid/
EV/hydrogen battery (nickel-metal hydrate or lithium-ion drive propulsion battery) including the case and mounting hardware, junction
block, main battery cable, and frame wire; onboard battery charging system including charge controller, plug in outlets, plug in cable, and
trickle charger cable; electric AC compressor and motor; electric steering rack, gear, and motor; electro/hydraulic power steering pump and
reservoir; hydrogen fuel cell stack; battery cooling pump; seals and gaskets

I specifically did not want HUD on my 2022. I find it more gimmicky / distracting than useful, and I don't like the appearance of the cutout in the top of the dash. Other than this, I'm not clear about anything missing from a 2020 that's available on a later model. Wireless Apple CarPlay was not in some of the earlier builds but was a software update.

Thanks for all the inputs. I've short listed a 2021 Taycan that I found at a dealer with CPO at a decent price. I test drove it for the first time and was blown away with the ride quality, noise isolation and cornering capability. The RWD is plenty fast for me coming from a slow japanese SUV. This particular car the dealer claims has the 20k service done, comes with default charger (whatever that means) and loaded with Premium package + pano roof + 20" wheels. I hope to use it for my hybrid work commute (2-3 days a week for a 20mile commute). Any recommendations on charging routine with a 50amp plug at home? Also any other things to look for before buying? (I'm going to check the under side of the car to make sure there aren't any major dents or damage visible).

Does it have Performance Battery Plus? It could significantly affect resell value down the line, regardless of whether you personally need it.

it doesn’t, most RWD cars I’m seeing listed don’t have it. I don’t think it’s that important of an option since it barely increases the range, gains 200lbs and no notable improvement to acceleration. Most people buy these as daily commuters where 20-30 miles extra range doesn’t really make it break things. Atleast based my research. Also I expect resale in general for these cars to be a wash, like panameras and cayennes, I’ve made peace with that

I resemble that comment, RWD with PB, no need to haul around an extra 176 lbs with the PB+, nor the 157 lbs front motor.
Although I did add the 48 lbs air suspension, because lowest setting increases efficiency.

I'm coming from an M5, don't miss the power, which seemed to be torque limited.
The Taycan's faster than a 930, without the snap over steer.

My charging uses the general profile at 35% so I can still precondition the interior after a short trip, otherwise less than 25% doesn't allow.
I use a timer to get to 100% 10 minutes before I leave for the commute.

Wear items to inspect and negotiate against:
  • How pitted is the windshield? Does it need replacement?
  • Any chips in the glass roof?
  • Any wear on the plastics (nose, side rails, rear diffuser?)

I bought a used 2021 from a non-Porsche dealer. Got a great deal on a 3,600 mile Turbo for the price of a new base sedan. Like you, about 2 years left on the original warranty. Porsche just came out with their own extended warranty plan. I found a 96 month/60,000 mile platinum warranty for around $3,650 (you can shop and buy this from any Porsche dealer and their pricing varies a lot!). I like the symmetry of having the base and battery warranties run out simultaneously. Chose the 60k, because I can't see me driving this car 10K miles/year (2nd car).

Enjoy the experience!
