Yup, who wants another ugly cable coming out of the wall, hardwire if at all possible.

  2. Porsche Wall Charger (adjustable 15-100 amp breaker) - $1586
  3. Tesla Wall Charger (adjustable from 15 to 60 amps) - multiple charger (up to 16) split load support - $400 - * - Requires TeslaTap or similar to use with standard J-1772 EV's
at $400 for a 60 amp (48 amp charge rate) high quality EVSE the Tesla Wall Charger is hard to beat - and it's adjustable (hardwired) to match any breaker size…you can purchase two for the price of one ClipperCreek HCS-60 - and have the two Wall Chargers "share" a single 60 (or more) breaker - so you can charge two EV's at the same time at 1/2 speed or one EV at full speed.

ClipperCreek and/or the Tesla Wall charger can "share" a circuit with another charger - so that you can charge 2 EV's at home and yet only have one 240 volt circuit - and it will split the load when charging 2 EV's or provide the entire breaker capacity to one EV when only one is charging - this is multiple EV ownership happiness.

if you have the 19.2 kw Charging option on your Taycan

I recommend the 100 amp ClipperCreek _OR_ the Porsche Wall Charger connect - but you'll need your electrician to install a 100 amp 240 V circuit (breaker+wire) to power either one of these EVSE's - but if you do invest in level of setup you would be able to charge your Taycan w/19.2 kW charging option from empty to 100% in less than 6 hours…

EVSE's are not vendor or vehicle specific - so installing one of these is for your current and future EV's and you will not (should not) need to change anything for your next EV) and they will also charge your wife's Cayenne eHybrid, F150 EV, Rivian, or your Macan EV…so this is a one time thing and a resource for your garage - you don't need to swap these out every time you bring home a new EV.
This is great info, THANK YOU
I already have a Tesla charger I was not using anymore but still in function .
If I get this right, I could just use the Tesla Tap and be done! Correct?

Correct! if you have a Tesla EVSE all you need is a 60/80 amp TeslaTap and you're done (the 60/80 amp rating is to protect the TeslaTap from "melting" when the Taycan is pulling mucho juice from higher capacity EVSE's you may have at home or encounter in the wild - the TeslaTap itself does not "dictate" charging rate it's just a "pass-through" for the capacity of what ever Teslacharger you're plugged into - but standard Taycan can pull 48 amps or 11 kW, and upgraded Taycan's can pull 19.2 kW or 80 amps - beefy wire/connectors are required to prevent electrical faults/melting/shorts -it's a $150k vehicile - spend an extra $37 and get a beefier TeslaTap).

the Taycan's standard onboard L2 charger is 11 kW maximum L2/AC charge rate - that translates into a 60 amp circuit breaker and/or 48 amp charge rate.

_IF_ you option the 19.2 kW onboard charger upgrade - the Taycan supports 19.2 kW charge rate - that translates into a 100 amp circuit breaker and/or 80 amp charge rate

But both Mobile and Wall mounted Tesla chargers work great for charging any/all EV's if you have a TeslaTap (or similar adapter).

NOTE: I believe _ALL_ EV owners should have a TeslaTap in the frunk - since Tesla has been selling EV's since about 2012 (Model S) we now have a decades worth of accumulated "Tesla L2" chargers in the world - Tesla even encouraged this by giving Tesla Wall chargers to willing businesses that would install them and make them available to their customers - it's called the Tesla Destination Charging network - no membership, accounting, activation, billing required. Just consumer grade Tesla Wall Charger's that can charge your EV from 20 to 80 amps at various locations all over North America… (malls, hotels, wineries, golf courses, restaurants etc…)

If you have a TeslaTap you in your non-Tesla can also use these chargers should you encounter them in the wild…with a TeslaTap (or similar) you can then charge your Taycan (or any EV or PHEV) at any/all Tesla Destination chargers & any normal Public EV chargers - it's win/win and a really really useful for any EV owner.

NOTE: TeslaTap does NOT allow/enable/bridge access to the Supercharger network in North America - that will require a much more complex adapter or addition of CCS cables to existing Supercharger stalls - which one will Elon choose? Someone knows, bu they ain't talking so far…

If you own an EV you should invest in a TeslaTap…it will make life easier for you - there are a LOT of Tesla Destination chargers just sitting there for you to use if you have one of these adapters.

my guide to a "simple" EV Roadwarrior "kit" that is good for anyone planning to road trip their EV (Taycan or otherwise)…read, enjoy, or ignore - but something like this means when you're away from home you'll have a pretty good chance of charging anywhere under any circumstance if you have this sort of "kit" in your Frunk…

the "goal" is simple - I never wanted to be anywhere in North America with my EV and staring at a pefectly functional EV charger or bare-Electrical outlet and couldn't charge because I lacked a $27.67 adapter - but what set of adapters should I have? Well this posting _IS_ that guide…and like first aid kits, rarely used, but awesome when you need it.

Enelx Juicebox has worked well.

However if you plan to have more than one EV clippercreek has a charger with 2 ports.

Cheers!

I initially bought a Juice Box on Amazon but then saw that they had a $50 off coupon on the WallBox which made it $150 cheaper so I returned the Juice Box and have the WallBox on the way this coming week.

wallbox is a GREAT choice - you'll have trouble free operation for your Taycan and all you future EV's.

I have a plug in Juice Box and my son has a hardwired version. I paid $599 at Costco. So far so good. There was an receptacle 14-50 R in my garage. For good luck I upgraded it to a Hubbell receptacle. The Cooper receptacle that was in there already was in good shape with no signs of overheating.

I have the Tesla J1772 model at one house, the ChargePoint at the other, both hardwired using a 60A circuit breaker and set to 50A.
The ChargePoint is a more thought out design, where the Tesla's cable interferes with the plug when put away.

Another very satisfied Chargepoint Flex owner here.

Will have it before end of the month. It'll be at the Houston port on Wednesday. My buddy is going to replace my outlet to the Hubbell one as I have one of the cheaper ones. It was delayed a few months by the 12v battery supply issue.

My Wallbox has been perfect with the Taycan. It did have some issues with a Tesla before that. That might have been operator error with the plug adaptor.

Replaced my 6-50 outlet provided by my electrification for my welder with the recommended Hubbell 6-50 outlet. I will say it feels more substantial in every way than the one provided for my welder and plasma cutter. It was very easy to install my self. One trick I saw from an electrician on line is to tighten the cables as tight as you can and repeat working them back and forth and re-tighten. I was amazed on how much additional tightening took place by using this method. Thanks for all the info.
