Default Thoughts on Mamba Green?

Got an allotment on a 4S with a build date of June. (Maybe. Who knows now, with the way things are going at this point.) Regardless, when I was doing the build on the configurator site, I fell in love with Mamba Green. I've seen many pictures of them on here and on other sites, though not in person. My only issue/question is this: Is this too polarizing of a color? I don't keep my cars long. I get bored with them. Heck, I traded in my '20 992 just last month after only 12K miles; the Cayman before that, I kept for 14 months. You get the point. I just know that I'll be selling it or trading it in within the next two or three years. If I lease it, then it's not a huge deal. If I decide to buy it, though, and I want to trade it in or sell it privately, then the color could be an issue. Some of us *LOVE* that color; many others *HATE* that color. I don't want to hear a dealership two or three years from now that the color is not too common, and try to low-ball me. (As they tried with my Miami Blue Cayman.) By the way, my "safe" option is Gentian Blue. Had it on my 992, and I love that color.

And, yes, I know... "buy whatever you want"; "don't worry about resale, and do what makes you happy"; "just drive it and enjoy it, worry about that at a later time". I know. I really just need folks' opinion on a color like this and its effect on trade-in or resale value. Thanks!

Love Mamba Green! Go for it. I always buy the color that I want and to hell with what the next owner thinks :-)

This is not scientific at all but if you check the # of posts for each color under https://www.taycanforum.com/forum/fo...d-journals.14/, Mamba Green is a lot more common than you might think. The real less common colors appear to be Frozen Berry and Coffee Beige, so you should be fine.

Here's our Mamba Green. Wife traded a Mamba Green Macan for it. Dealer was happy to get a Macan in a different color other than silver, black, and white. They resold the Mamba Green Macan in less the a week.

Out of the 30-40 cars I've owned I've bought two new, both "special" order, both relevant to your question. First was a 2008 BMW 328i wagon RWD with 6-speed. Dealer insisted on double deposit because "nobody wants a 6-speed RWD wagon." The second was my Racing Yellow 981 Cayman. Again, dealer insisted on double deposit because, they claimed, they couldn't sell a yellow car. I sold both cars about 7-8 years later, both with high miles. Both cars sold easily BECAUSE of the 6-speed (328iT) or color (981)--because they were rare.

Want a white/black/gray/silver German car? You have your pick of 1,000s. Want a Mamba Green one? You have your pick of whatever is on the market at the time, if there are any. Now, you may have to do something out of the ordinary to find the buyer, but that is easy now too. Just put it on Bring A Trailer or Cars and Bid. I can't imagine you won't find your buyer there willing to pay more than the average price for a white/black/gray/silver Taycan. I know I did for both of my unusual cars.

Oh, and what color am I ordering for my CT4? Mamba Green, of course! (Though I do toy with Neptune Blue.....)

PS -- color of one of my vintage cars? Orange, as in Inka Orange--a BMW 2000 touring....

You need to see it person.

Then you'll know for sure whether Mamba Green is for you.

Pictures do not do the metallic green justice.

Mamba green is absolutely gorgeous in person. I would personally find it a little bit too attention-drawing, but if that doesn't bother you, I don't think you'll be disappointed. Gentian Blue would be my Taycan color.

Yes, definitely polarizing.

I think you either love it or hate it. Definitely not going to blend in. And I am saying this as an owner of an orange vert, and a silver vert with red top.

IMO, polarizing and jelly bean colors can help GT cars resale. Not sure about others. I think you could be shrinking the potential pool of buyers. Dealer no doubt will take advantage of that. Heck if I am a private buyer, I might use the same excuse to haggle the price, even if I love it.

I think this reasoning looks at the situation backwards. If a buyer wants an interesting color, not your typical white/black/silver/grey car, they have very few choices. Sure, less than half the market may not be willing to buy a Taycan in Mamba Green. But those brave souls who are have no where else to go. Absolutely nowhere. They are captive to the seller. That leaves little room for haggling and, to my experience, quite the opposite. All it takes is two interested buyers to make the bidding go up....

Look at the price of speedy yellow 993s. Or this yellow 2002tii that sold today on BaT. Or my Racing Yellow 981 that sold for more than any similar Cayman on cars and bid. Here's all the recent Caymans on that site sorted by miles. Mine was the highest miles (112k) 981 (with original clutch!) and it sold for more than any other 981 S with over 50k miles (except one). Color sells.

I can definitely see your point.

GR, RY, black and white are basic Porsche colours. IMO, green is a whole different kettle of fish.

Congrats on your sale price. I think it being a 2014 also helps.

Agree with this take. It's probably reasonable to expect the sale process to take longer, since the immediate "need it now" local market is probably not looking for the unusual colour. But if you can be patient, the buyer who has to have that colour will come along.

I was hesitant to buy our Turbo because I thought the brown club leather would be a tough sell. In fact, on the pictures on the dealer's website, the lighting made it look pretty horrible. But in person it feels and looks incredibly luxurious and unique, to the extent that my wife insisted on getting the same interior on our incoming GTS ST.

I can tell you we get regular compliments on our Mamba CT4S. One of the original press cars was Mamba. Looks pretty interesting in the photos, but then we saw a Mamba Macan IRL and decided we had to go for it. We originally ordered a '21 CT4S but due to massive delays agreed with dealer to cancel it and take a '22 slot instead. The '21 actually arrived at the dealer a few weeks after we took home our '22. The dealer had it sold "immediately" after posting it online.
