I've heard the same kind of stories. Could be an explanation....

I suspect they're hoping to appeal to buyers looking for the lowest possible price point on an electric Porsche.

The air suspension is noticeable compared to my outgoing model 3 performance. It's really fantastic, in my view.

My dealer confirmed the car I drove doesn’t have the air suspension. It is a $2200 option. They are trying to keep the lease payments low. My wife and I thought the steel suspension was way to hard and harsh for us. Once I drive one with the air suspension I expect it to be fine for us.
note: we checked and the shipping blocks were removed.

I concur, I have the base model. Agree the car ride is harsh, I even drive it all the time in sport mode so it can smooth it a little. Also I kept the tire pressure front at 37 and rear at 40 PSI .... I 'm thinking to bring the tire pressure even more done to 37 rear and 34 front.

I don't have air suspension. Regular suspension. I will bring both tire pressure down by 3 points.

My wife and I test drove a RWD Taycan today with 20" Turbbo Aero wheels and without air suspension. We felt the suspension was quite comfortable.

Maybe I misunderstand the way the Modes work but wouldn't Sport be harsher than Normal?

I noticed that the sport mode give me a little bit a smoother ride. However, I may be biased as I used to drive my panamera in sport mode all time and was smoother for sure.

Lowered the tires pressure to 37 PSI rear and 35 PSI front. That helped to smooth the ride so far. I do drive in "sport mood" and "chassis in normal" . The only annoying thing is that, I can't save the drive mode to my setting as a defult I have to click on the sport button which put the chassis in sport and I have to change the cassis back to normal and keep the drive mode in sport.

I have a 4 S loaner with 20" wheels while my 4 S with 19" wheels gets the software update.
The 20" wheels make the car ride a bit stiffer.
The loaner 4 S also has PSCBs and the pedal is much higher and firmer than my 4 S with standard brakes.

I just purchased a 2021 4S a d guess it came with air suspension standard. No complaints what so ever. It rides on rails and is smooth as silk while doing it! No complaints.
