Uh huh. LOL. My ex-2006 MB, manufactured in Germany, had a recalled Takata airbag.

Speaking of that car, there is no way MB could have qualified it to "10m km". Maybe they ran 100 cars 100 km (60k miles) each. That engine, as manufactured, had an improperly heat treated gear on its balance shaft - dooming it to failure after about 80-100k miles. The wonderful German design required pulling the engine to repair the bad parts. MB dealer quoted me $14k to fix. NFW. (There was a class action law suit against MB - which MB lost. But its terms expired before my car failed.) You'd think a company that has been building IC engines literally since the dawn of the automotive age would know how to heat treat gears by now...

BTW, that ex-Tesla QA guy was only there for about a year - like 10 years ago when the company was on the ropes trying to get the Model S into production. I'd guess he has little knowledge of current Tesla test and development practices.

i thought that's obvious as it would take over a decade to drive those miles in one car.

Do you see an improvement with the initial quality of the Y? Why have they started selling the Y so early? Are they near bankruptcy again?

Laurel Spencer doesn't have a broken 2020 Lincoln Aviator anymore.

Ford Motor Co. replaced her $70,000 luxury SUV, which began to have problems within 48 hours of ownership that included a leaky sunroof, nonworking seat belts, computer malfunctions that gave false crash warnings, unexpected parking brake resistance and transmission alarms.
Sheesh, sounds a lot worse than uneven panel gaps, bad paint and a slightly out of alignment rear seatback. Non-working seatbelts? Transmission alarms? Yikes!

2020 Ford Explorer, Lincoln Aviator reportedly facing numerous QC issues More than 10,000 units are being sent 275 miles away for fixes

A source involved with Explorer repairs at the plant said problems include:
  • Explorer chassis issues. X-rays are being used to try to diagnose problems.
  • Explorer transmission-related questions that prevent the vehicle from going into park or properly sensing the vehicle is in park. Some transmissions are not going into park and the computer is automatically activating the parking brake. Also, the computer cannot determine whether the vehicle is going into park properly and then not activating the brake, which means the vehicles are rolling away.
  • Explorer and Aviator air-conditioning systems that blow heat only.
  • Aviator suspension issues. The new system has auto leveling, which drops the vehicle down slightly when it’s unlocked and approached. But they’re arriving with suspensions in failure mode.
Ford sources say they're puzzled by even mundane situations, such as missing emblems and trim pieces and having the wrong wheels
Ford's response better than Tesla's for sure. Tesla has definitely had problems. I would be the one with my head in the sand if I tried to deny that. And perhaps THEY should have done a stop sale on the Model Y. But my point still stands, Tesla is not nearly alone in these types of issues. And those issues aren't really more or less serious than other manufacturers. Just one of the more reported on

I'd rather have seen MB do 100k miles in 50 cars. They might have seen the problem.

Buicks 3800 V6 had a balance shaft design for over 20 years, and never had such problems. (We won't talk about the balance shaft and timing belt issues in the 944...)

You don't think Tesla has already done winter testing on the Y? LOL.

I don't own a Y, so can't comment on it. I have very few complaints with my Model 3. When it was new, I had a trusted detail shop go over the paint and interior with a fine toothed comb. (Although he had previously detailed a lot of Model S and X, my Model 3 was the first he had taken a close look at.) Outside of a little polishing, they found exactly one defect in the paint. A little black dot about 0.2 mm wide. Few would ever notice it unless I pointed it out to them. After two years, nothing has needed to be repaired. They did replace an aero wheel cover for me after the local tire shop guy messed up one of the spring clips.

I've been told emphatically by many on this very forum that Porsche's quality is far superior to Tesla's - and that they would never ever ship a product with the sort of build/quality issues Tesla owners have experienced…

can we please now dispense with the notion that some how Porsche is some how immune to problems…less than 5,000 cars shipped, and the 12 volt battery problem is shaping up to be a real issue for Porsche - as it turns the car into a brick if happens to you - and numerous delivery flaws similar to manufacturing problems Tesla owners experience…hmmmm not seeing that vast chasm of Porsche quality I was told about - and so far most Taycan owners have experienced more problems that I ever had with _ANY_ of my Tesla's…

car's are complex beast with problems - and every manufacturer is doing the best they can to stay on top of the issues and so far the Taycan is experiencing similar "DOA" issues in early days just like the early Teslas - and for similar reasons which cracks me up - 12 volt battery maintenance is a tricky thing to get right when you no longer have an alternator…Tesla went through this problem and now so is Porsche - guess they will have to push some OTA update with firmware changes for which they spend less than year QA'ing it - hmmmm now if I could only think about another auto manufacturer fixing similar problems in software with an OTA update - something again Porsche would never have to do…

funny thing is the Porsche owners are not any more upset than the Tesla owners, and they remain happy with their purchases and just want their car fixed - cutting Porsche a lot of slack because while the car has problem they still love it - sounds a lot like the irrational love Tesla owners have for their cars in the face of minor and medium problems from a manufacturer facing some early problems with a new product - but no one is accusing them of being irrational fan boys…

the grass is no greener or browner on either side of the fence and the good the bad and the ugly is simply a matter of perception and attitude and what data points you choose to pay attention to - so far the Taycan's quality at roll out I would suggest from a reliability point of view is only marginally better than any early production Tesla products and there are overt quality issues showing up in what is a low volume vehicle at 5,000 units sold and numerous problems getting the fast charging network to function - my particular favorite is the un-soldered steering wheel ribbon cable which requires a new steering sensor unit for which Porsche has no time line as to when they can source the part - so a new car is sitting in limbo waiting for a part on a DOA item that should've never left the factory - again I thought only Tesla did this sort of crap…

unfinished interior items - sloppy attention to detail…

Delighted with the car, great hardware.. although dodgy poor software

looking inside the rear boot / trunk... mine appears unfinished..
the ceiling area to me looks like it should have some kind of panel/lining,
in mine I look up at a metal panel, with areas of paint overspray.. is this normal ?
hmmmmm - buggy software you say?

TSLA just went north of $1700 in after hours trading. Weren't a few posters earlier in this thread thinking it would be under $50 by now? S&P 500 inclusion seems inevitable.

Brilliant move putting truck production in Texas. Though Tulsa wouldn't have been bad either.

@acoste you mean like when porsche kept my GT3 for a week for “an inspection” and the service bill had a whole bunch of undisclosed published “updates and component replacements?”

you mean simple service appointments like that?
