Default 987.2 Spyder Steering Wheel Options

Show me your steering wheels please. I just picked up an 11 Spyder and am considering an alcantara wheel and shift boot to match alcantara seat inserts. What are the "go to" options? TIA

I think you're on the right track! IF and WHEN I upgrade my seats in my Spyder I plan to do the same. The Alcantara package so suits that car. You probably been all over the Suncoast site...

GTS RS 4.0 SW? YES!!!

Thanks for the link. Sweet stuff there. Looks like to do it right, the shift boot and handbrake assembly, along with the wheel all need to be done. Has anyone done this and if so, any pics? My car came with full leather and alcantara package, but the only alcantara is in the seat inserts, which I thought was the case with all the buckets. Are there LWB seats without alcantara in our cars?

I just noticed that Suncoast now, has in stock, the LWB's for our cars for $9,350... Holy s..t, and a separate set of alcantara Factory cushions for the seats for... wait for it... another $4,300. Crazy! That makes these seats alone worth 20% of the value of the car... What???

Yeah LWB prices are crazy. I heard Sparco is developing a pretty close copy at a fraction of the price. Haven't seen it on their website yet.

There's a reason why the LWB Spyders trade hands at higher prices than the standard seats.

All Spyders came with Alcantara inserts for the seats unless ordered custom.

As far as which pieces you switch from leather to Alcantara, that is really a matter of preference. I know that orthojoe had posted up some pictures of his old Spyder when he switched the trim from the standard leather to red Alcantara to match the 4.0 interior. I will see if I can find his post and put the link here.

Personally I love the Alcantara wheel but a I would probably want to change the shifter, boot and handbrake so it all matches and I'm not sure I would want an Alcantara shift **** for wear reasons.

Thanks guys,

The more I think of it, I would only change out the steering wheel to Alcantara. I think the other stuff in leather matches the rest of a full leather package anyway. The alcantara wheel is in fairly close proximity to the alcantara seat cushions so it should look "proper" from a design point of view.

I really like the sport design wheel, and now just need to figure out which version I want. I do want the red marker at the top to match other red accents in the car. I'd love the 4.0 RS, but that just seems over the top, price wise.

Sport design wheel in alcantara and the gt3 alcantara shifter.
My cayenne had the sport design wheel in leather and it's nice. No radio controls which I prefer.
I would not pay 1500 for the rs40 red stripe. Go to Home Depot and get some colored electrical tape. try it :-)

I agree, the adder for a silly stripe is Porsche tax at its best. The sport design looks very classy and sporty with the aluminum trim. If there was a list of things I could do differently when I ordered mine it would include the addition of the sport design steering wheel, short shifter and PCCB's.

I'm going to find a sport design wheel in alcantara somewhere and I already have the tape in the garage I would def love to have the PCCB's on this car. I did get lucky with the short shifter and am really happy with that.

Perhaps the most affordable solution is to send your wheel to Dallas custom wheel and have it redone there in any color, material, stitching, stripe, etc. about $800? I did this years ago. Very pleased.

Thanks. I have been checking them out. The stock wheel is a standard batwing unit, I prefer the SD wheel. Hopefully find something over the next month or so.

Go watch the in car video I just posted... That is the wheel you want... Do you have sports chrono? If so you may want the unit with the lights...

Paul, isn't that a PDK wheel?
