My wife and I took the Spyder into the mountains for a little exercise on Friday.

I dared to go out for a drive today up the coast with my horrendous (and temporary) red wheels.. met up with another RL member with a fantastically setup 993.. all stripped out with rollbar, short-shifter, cloth recaro's, Pss10's and 6 pot front calipers with some mean suspension alignment.. my my what a fantastic drive. The little 993 taught me how much I still have to learn about driving.. had a little brown spot after a little lift-oversteer event next to the water.. ya think you know how to drive an old 911 until ya' start rotating too much.. argh!!!!

Anyway, great drive.. spyder absolutely unflappable as usual, buttery controls, fast as **** in the twisties, and ultra competent in comparison.. almost too easy. The 911? Yea, she made me her bitch.

(Red vinyl on wheels coming off tomorrow)

Boy that 993 is slammed!! No rubbing??? Hard to believe... almost looks a little too much, like many a Golf or Subaru owned by a 17 year old... sorry!

Don't apologize, it's ok to not understand.

With as bad as our roads are here in Norcal... it has an incredibly supple ride, complete absorption of road asperities, with almost no body roll, squat or dive in transitions. For right mountain roads where power is secondary to poise, it's perfect. My only complaint could be that it has a little push on initial turn-in (like all older 911) and then the rear just comes around too easy.. maybe some swaybar adjustments necessary? Hard to tell as we were really pushing on. But as far as bump absorption, it was very smooth..It's not lowered for looks.. it's pure performance, real road stage rally car setup.

Probably not enough negative camber on front wheels to dial out the understeer. Trade off for minimizing tire wear on a predominately street driven car.

I'm always curious to get driving impressions on the 993, thanks for the post CAlexio. So what did the 993 owner think of the Spyder?

Parked far away from the crowd while the missus goes into Walmart. Nice weather for top down motoring. Those days are numbered this time of year as it's about to become a sauna here in Central Florida.

He's driven it before, he really likes it :-) (I'll let him respond further, would be funny/not funny if I say how much he loves it in comparison and then I get contradicted !!

Default X73

When I come back from a drive I'm left speaking in tongues mumbling incoherently about the miracle that is X73. When just joy riding and cruising about the suspension is so compliant, but get down to business and the car just sticks and sticks. Absolutely amazing. I bow down to the Porsche engineers that first worked on this suspension for the 987 Spyder.

At the end of my canyon drive today I took some shots in front of Oakley's post-apocalyptic design and development facility in Foothills Ranch, California. Before they got bought by Italian eyewear behemoth Luxottica in 2007 for $2.1 billion, it used to be Oakley's corporate HQ as well. It's worth a visit during normal business hours just to go inside - - probably the closest you will ever get to being on the set of Blade Runner.

As you can see, beautiful blue skies in So Cal this weekend. Hoping you guys living up north that have your cars in winter hybernation don't have much longer to go.

Default My kind of wild (the track)

Decent day at Buttonwillow 13cw configuration.
Did personal best times high 2:02's. Gotta trust the rear diff on acceleration, balance of the car over the Hills, and grip of the tires a little more to get my 2:00 minute time there.

Got her out of storage and gave a solid polish and wax. This could be the best 987 Spyder in existence....2900 miles and all the right options.
