I'm assuming most of us in RL are over 40. IMO, no modern car other than perhaps the RS 4.0 (which too is debatable) will in our lifetime
1. Become a collectible (7/10 confidence)
or
2. Will go up in value (10/10 confidence).
So buy the car if you enjoy driving and not hoping that it would go in value. I have heard great things about the Spyder. But had not driven the Spyder up until now. I was impressed with its handling to say the very least but if I am right, (correct me if I am wrong) it is not probably not a quantum leap over a properly spec'd Boxster S. On the looks department, I still would take a 911 any day (air-cooled or water cooled) but it certainly looked much more appealing to me than any other Boxster. The salesman insisted that I test drive a 981. He said I would be blown away. On the way back it poured cats and dogs in Seattle and the road conditions made a perfect companion for the handling of my C4S.
Porsche just makes amazing cars.

I believe that a 981S equipped with PTV, Sport Suspension, and Sport chrono would handle nearly as well as a Spyder. Certainly close enough where the driver would the differance.

driving 150 miles to a car show in my spyder today, 75 with top down, 75 with top up I can say what a car. Even though this car is a modified "boxster", it looks so much better and most people do not know what it is (including boxster owners). I would say it is the modern day 356, or speedster. Such a beautiful car to drive and look at!! The Spyder can hold its own in a sea of Ferrari's and other exotics!!

Been extremely busy commuting, working and taking time off for family duties this past year. No time to take pics yet. The RS in my favorite color combo (Grey black/Red) had only three options: Radio delete, lightweight headlights and PCCB's. I could not walk away from that spec.

You are first (sorry second) on my list if I ever want to sell. I would never sell my cars to anyone other than fellow enthusiasts.

Congrats on the gt3rs, would love to see some pics. It would be hard to resist a Spyder after a test drive, but having an RS in the garage probably makes it easier to walk away without buying.

Thanks Dave. One of these days I'll formally introduce my street weapon. I promise.
Despite having driven my extreme 911, I really enjoyed my brief stint with the spyder. I loved the 3.4 liter flat six, the manual shifter, and most importantly the poise and polish that was on tap on every turn. When I drove the car it felt very nice and relaxing as a yoga workout as opposed to the HIIT which is what the RS is. I definitely have spyder withdrawal
Likewise every Porsche enthusiast should drive a RS once in their lifetime. It really is a smashing machine.

[QUOTE=orthojoe;9931732]You're one of the few people who have seen a spyder in person that doesn't think it looks more fantastic than a carrera./QUOTE]
Add me to the list of people who think the 911 looks better than a Boxster Spyder. I also think that I'm in the majority on this one, Joe.

I'm going to straddle the fence. the reason is I own both a 997.2 and a Spyder. I throughly enjoy both of them each fro a different reason, both are outstanding vehicles. I have had several Caymans and while very nice cars and fun to drive I AM A 911 guy. the Spyder , well different and absolutely pure fun but perhaps not a daily driver and fortunately mine doesn't have to be. That said its going to be a nice sunny day in South texas so I think I will take my wife to lunch in the Spyder.
