Arrrrg! Keep the 2006 C2S or swap for a 2012 Cayman R...
Arrrg! What to do? I have the opportunity to swap out, for approx the same monthly lease payment, my well optioned, soon to be out of warrenty, 2006 C2S for a beautiful slightly used 2012 Peridot Green well optioned Cayman R with 5 years extended warrenty. I love my C2S but this beautiful 'new' car is alluring. Thoughts or considerations from anyone? Any regrets for those of you that have made the switch? Anyone missing the 911 legacy, or is that just...

With that said, I decided to buy a Boxster after driving one following a 997tt test drive. I was in the market to replace my murdered and beloved 911 with a newer (can't bring myself to replace her with the same, because it wouldn't be the same), faster version but after driving the mid-engined Porsche, I was intoxicated with its prowess. I never used the rear seats in my 911 after my daughter grew-up, so not having them or that space is a non-issue. The Cayman R is more focused than my RS60 and is much stiffer and has more Porsche goodness, just can't pop the top.
No sunroof option on the Cayman kept me away but maybe a track car some day.
I still admire the 911 for what it is and what it isn't and will add one to the stable sometime soon.

I had a great handling nicely optioned boxster, and i may be just me, but I did have 911 envy. So after a year I fixed that.
It comes down to get what you like. No one else can lead you in this decision I think.

I had an '09 997 C2S and while it was fast and very comfortable it was not fun to drive ( not like joy older 911 Sc so I traded it for a Boxster Spyder and regained that smile every time I get behind the wheel. As others have said its what turns you on. Having two lockable trunks is a great plus and the handling of the "R" or spider is fantastic. Enjoy

The Cayman R is a very compelling car. If you don't need to stuff kids in the back of your 997 then go for the Cayman. The handling is great on these cars. I might consider one down the road once I am done pouring money into my 993 C4S $$$$.

Drive everything you can, but there is a pretty big difference between a Boxster S and a Spyder... and there are even differences between the Spyder and the Cayman R.

iwould recommend to look for CPO or new GTS car first, then try out Cayman R.
If factory would put GTS motor into Cayman it would be a very tough choice but as it is right now GTS is the best _street_ car Porsche has.
If you want a car mostly for a track you have more options obviously.
If factory would put GTS motor into Cayman it would be a very tough choice but as it is right now GTS is the best _street_ car Porsche has.

I've owned a 964 turbo, a 993 C2 manual coupe, a 993 turbo, and a Ferrari 328 GTS.
I recently test drove the Cayman R and bought it on the spot. It is by far and away the best driving experience I've had.
The car I bought has PDK, sports chrono, the paddle shifts and a bunch of other stuff. It's unbelievable.
If you have the opportunity do try one. You'll be hooked.
