Default 991 vs spyder 1/4 mile times

1/4 mile drag times for spyder vs new 991

spyder: 12.8@109.4
991: 12.9@109.2

Trap speeds basically suggest the same amount of power hitting the ground between the two

Interesting conversation topic?

***EDIT: Nevermind, the quarter mile time was for the R8, not the 991. 991 time was 12.7@113.2

Thanks for posting the video links. It looks like the 1/4 mile time you posted was for the R8. The 1/4 mile for the 991 is 12.7@113.2 according to the video. I still prefer our Spyders but the 991 GT3's will be very interesting.

Very hard to argue that the Spyder is an incredible bang for the buck. Imagine if Porsche put in a GT3 engine in a Spyder. That would be a beast! I would pay $10K more to get that!

Whoops! You're right, Ben. My mistake. It was long day yesterday, I guess. I retract everything...

What's to retract? Our Spyders are within a few tenths of a second with cars that cost twice as much. And quite frankly I would guess that time difference is solely due to wheel chatter at launch.

Thanks for the videos!

BTW, how hard is it to install the GT3 brake ducts?

A few tenths of a second and a few mph on a quarter mile actually equates to a significant difference in horsepower. It may only be a few tenths, but you can really feel it. I learned this from 'back in the day' when I lived in Michigan and used to drag race cars at the local drag strip. A good way to measure actual power are the trap speeds. The 991 is 4mph faster across the line. Again, a significant difference in power is needed for that 4mph.

GT3 brake duct install is very simple. Unsnap the stock duct and snap on the GT3 one. It takes more time to take off the wheel and jack up the car than it does to swap the duct.
