Spyder Sun Shade Roll-bar Pin Holes
To all Spyder Owners:
I made the choice to get my MY2012 Spyder with the matching exterior paint on the roll bards (Guards Red). Unfortunately, after a very short period of ownership (1 week), I'm seeing the pain chip on the Sun Shade mounting holes on the roll bars.
Has anyone come up with creative ideas to prevent this chipping? I know I can get some touch-up paint from the dealer, but if I had chipping on factory paint, I'm guessing this will be a constant battle.
Any solutions are welcome. Thanks.
John

Buy a small piece, cut a square and punch a hold through it and apply it. If you do touch up I would wait at least a week for the paint to cure.
The only concern is that the paint may actually be chipping when you pull the top off, not put it on. The nylon/rubber covers may have enough friction to pull the paint off. Another thought is to maybe use a small amount of lubricant on the rubber to reduce friction but that depends on how the damage is occuring.
I was also going to have the roll bars painted but I distinctly remember reading in one of the car magazines that the white paint was chipping on the roll bars of their test car and I decided not to order it. Glad I didn't since it seems to be a common problem and I can see why considering the design of the top. The standard black must be powdercoated since it seems to hold up very well.

had mine for a year now and the paint is chipping. touch up paint is useless. Dealer offered to take it off for re-painting but I don't want to knowing that it will prolly chip again.
i had heard about it as well but still like the asthetics of the painted roll bar..
although i think greasing is prolly the best way
