Are you going to make this available for California cars? Would I be able to smog it?

Yes it is available to CA cars and no we will not be seeking CARB certification as of this post.

So, I could have it put on, but I wouldn't be able to smog it. It would fail visual inspection.

Given the numbers of these cars in California, I'm hoping that we can persuade you to get the CARB certification, and that it would be financially justifiable. I'm sure the cert. is a pain in the a$$ though. I would purchase your system in .0005 seconds. I track my car every chance I get, and I'd love a little more push.

+1 IMA Motorsport is developing a twin turbo kit for the 987 platform as well. There is a development thread on 6speed, I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post a link so I won't. I hope TPC or IMA find CARB certification a worthwhile venture. There is a huge potential market here in California, I don't understand why someone hasn't taken advantage of it yet.

I imagine that if enough deposits are placed with TPC or IMA they would consider pursuing the CARB requirements.

I am curious though, when inspections are performed in CA on a Boxster or any other midengine car where the engine isn't visible from the top how do they perform a visual inspection? Do they put the car on a lift?

Ha, that indeed is a good question. I wonder how it's done also.

By the way, has anybody offered something similar with the pre-DFI engines? Mine's a 987.1 S.

It all depends on how "thorough" the tech wants to be, or how much money he want's to make. IMHO, all smog testers are crooks, and they will do anything to increase their margins. I can't tell you how many of my vehicles have failed for gas caps, then they offer to sell me one for $40. Threat of bodily injury usually gets them to reverse their findings.

Ostensibly, given the low likelihood of the tech having seen a car with factory Sport Exhaust, you could tell him that's what is is, because he wouldn't know the difference. One look underneath though, and you can see that it's aftermarket. They wouldn't even need to put it on a lift.

It comes down to the whim of the tech.

My friend is eagerly awaiting the first TPC 987 turbo kit to be released, and now I see why.
