Default Cayman R will arrive as a MY2012 / Implications for current Boxster/Cayman platform!

Per my response to an earlier post, I got an email last night from a friend who attended Wednesday night's Porsche party at the LA Auto Show. He sent me a photo of the MSRP info display in front of the world premiere Peridot Metallic Cayman R that reads "MY2012", not MY2011. I sent that photo to my dealer and this morning PCNA confirmed to him that the Cayman R will be a MY2012, not a MY2011. MY dealer will be able to 'custom order' MY2012 Cayman R for his customers starting with the next allocation batch he will get from PCNA in January.

So that means (I believe) we will see current Boxster/Cayman platform continue 'as is' for MY2012. And that might mean we will also see a MY2012 Boxster Spyder too. Because of this new information (Cayman R will be a MY2012), I believe we can expect to see the new Boxster/Cayman platform as a MY2013 (not a MY2012) that will probably be announced late in 2011 and produced/delivered starting in spring of 2012 an an 'early' model introduction. z356 (Montecito/Santa Barbara on way to LA Auto Show)

A few other pieces of information, since I am at LA Auto show right now on my IPad. Cayman R will have alcantara SportDesign wheel as standard. For time being, no deviating stitching will be allowed to avoid delays in production. Although configurator is up, perhaps not all options have been finalized yet. Cayman R's will be built by subcontractor in Finland while the Spyder continues to be built in Zuffenhausen. Peridot metallic show car in LA will be shortly sent back to Germany. And again, let me repeat, this will be a MY2012 vehicle. Z356

is the color (Peridot) accurately reflected in the photographs that have been posted on various sites or does it appear different in person?

Steve: Hard to tell about this color. I like it. But we saw it only under artificial light at the LA Auto Show. Even the Pdf brochure and internet press photos are mostly taken at night. I bet Peridot Metallic will look more 'green' in sunlight. There is quite a bit of yellow tint in this metallic color. The overall impression today, especially with the black accents of rear view mirrors, side air intakes and rear wing, makes it look unique. I will pm you some of the photos I took once I return to Carmel on Sunday. z356
