Default Sport vs Sport Plus & Sport Chrono vs Sport Chrono Plus

I'm confused about the differences with these two options and how they affect 6MT vs PDK.

So correct me if I'm wrong but as I understand it, Sport button on 6MT and PDK basically just enhances throttle response and I believe makes the rev limiter go from a soft limiter to a hard limit, correct?
So do you need to option Sport Chrono Package (option code 639) in order to get Sport on either 6MT or PDK or do you select some other option to get the Sport button? If so, which option code?

Now if you option Sport Chrono Plus (option code 640), do you still get a Sport Plus button on the 6MT? It's my understanding that on the PDK, you will get the Sport Plus button which basically includes launch control and faster shift speeds for the PDK. If you get the Sport Plus button on the 6MT, what would this provide since launch control wouldn't apply nor would the faster shift times?

With PDK and the Sport and Sport Plus button, do you have to push both buttons to engage the programs or do you just push Sport Plus and the light on the Sport button automatically engages? It would seem weird to me that you can push Sport Plus to engage Launch Control and the faster shirt pattern but not push the Sport button to engage the more responsive throttle and adjusted rev limit.

One other question about the Sport Plus shift algorithm. On my 2021 Spyder, if I leave the car in "normal" mode, the transmission is about 1 to 2 gears higher than how I would drive a manual transmission. I assume this is to help with mpg and allow for a more comfortable driving experience in terms of shift points. Does the Sport Plus button seem to always keep the car in the "right" gear such as 2nd gear at about 20mph, 3rd gear at about 30mph, 4th gear at about 40mph, etc or does it only affect how fast the gears are changed?

Frankly, I don’t know the answer to your question. But, you’ve posted in the 987 forum and I would caution that whatever the answer is to your question things may have changed in 10 years if 987 owners are responding. You may get a more accurate response to your question posting in the 981 forum. Good luck.

Why do you suggest posting in the 981 forum as I'm asking about the buttons on the 987.2 Spyder?

Sorry about that. The only reference I saw was to your 2021 Spyder. Carry on.

^^^No problem. It's all good. I was referencing my 2021 Spyder to say how the PDK Sport button works on my car and wondering if the 987.2 Sport and Sport Plus button work the same way?

My 6MT car has option 639 and the Sport button.

I didn’t think that option 640 could be had on a 6MT car.

If it helps, here is a pic of my options list:

Thank you for your data point. Nice spec btw. Would you mind sharing pictures of your interior as I'm curious to know what option code XFZ Add'l Alcantara entails?

Thanks. She’s a gem and I’m lucky to be her current caretaker. Surprisingly I don’t seem to have any pics of the interior at the moment. XFZ covers the interior arm rests/door grasps in alcantara. The steering wheel and shifter are also covered in alcantara so that must be what the DBA option is?

I have a 987.2 Spyder with PDK and Sports Chrono. The normal setting is painful. It shifts up way too early. The Sports mode is how I drive a manual. Perfect. The Sports Plus mode is over the top. Shifts are harsh and it holds to the rev limit. I’ve rarely used it unless following a GT4 or similar where I need the last ounce of performance.

Not a Spyder, but a 2012 Black Edition with 6MT and option 640

I stand corrected.

Maybe this thread sheds some light on it? It sounds like you could only get Plus if you had PCM?

All the answers are in the manual.

"Sport Chrono Package Plus" is simply when Sports Chrono is optioned in conjunction with PSM Navigation on the same car. Having the PSM allows for all the normal Sports Chrono operation, plus it logs lap data in memory, saving/editing it, and referring back to it later on the PCM screen or downloading to an SD card.

Sport Chrono does more than change throttle response and remove the soft rev-limiter. It also changes intervention thresholds for PSM and ABS. This effectively creates 4 settings for driver assistance rather than just 2 settings, and they are highly usable. Leaving on PSM while selecting the "Sport" setting is ideal for track driving as it let's you slide the car and use throttle to control steering without intervention, yet somehow knows when you're actually losing control and steps in like the Mario Kart cloud dude. It's pretty amazing how intelligent it is.
