Interesting Spyder auction on BaT:

Surprised no one has commented on it yet, or maybe I just overlooked it?

An incredibly nice example! The red interior is personally a little 'loud' for me but there's no arguing with this level of high spec. One of the highest MSRP of any Spyder I've seen and wouldn't be surprised at all if it sold at or over it. Will be watching for sure.

Saw someone mentioned aftermarket hardtop in the discussion. Amazing BAT crowds....

red int & pccb not my cup of tea. But it's 85k already.

Bidding to $85,000 already with 3 days left. Very low mileage at 4600. Perhaps whoever buys it will be stashing it away as a collectible. No point in paying top dollar for low miles and then driving it regularly.

Familiar face asking about the paint meter readings which I'd also noticed. Very odd, probably just a poorly calibrated meter.

I think its a gorgeous and desirable spec and I was bidding but the paint meter readings give me great pause. @Marine Blue wrote almost the exact post I wanted to write but honestly I have stopped providing feedback/questions on BaT as one can come across as sour grapes or trying to influence an auction when you truly have important information to share. Sadly it used to be enthusiasts there and now most of the people commenting are nowhere near as knowledgable as they think they are and anything viewed as negative even if said as diplomatically as possible seems to cause some ire....
Ultimately there are only two possibilities:
Ultimately there are only two possibilities:
- The budget $50 Amazon paint meter the seller is using is providing an incorrectly high reading. In this case the seller is doing himself a huge disservice as many potential buyers will see readings between 10-19 as outside generally accepted numbers (~3.5-6 mils on 987, add 7-8 mils for PPF) and pass on the car.
- The car could in fact have received extensive paint work. While it would seem odd, things happen and if so the car would suffer a fairly significant value deduction from the typical collector (on a driver quality car or for some people it wouldn't be an issue, but for most at this price range it would be).

It would be a pretty impressive paint job if it was indeed re-sprayed. Just looking at the details from the wheel wells to the side logo to under body - would be hard to pull it off without any more signs of a re-spray. I would not trust that meter either way. At this price though agreed someone needs to see it/verify.

I have the same paint meter as the seller and just took it out to my Spyder to see what's up. I've never put a meter on the car before because I bought it unseen, also from BaT.
My readings were between 3.5 and 5.5 all the way around. Mostly in the high 3s, but it has also been paint corrected twice (that I am aware of). Seller could do himself a favor and at least recalibrate his meter with the samples and instructions that came with it.
Nothing against the seller and would love to see a new high watermark.

At least one person wasn’t deflected by the paint meter issue: the latest bid is up at $90,870 with one day to go. Whew…..

LOL @ the person begging for a new set of tires to be included in the sale price.
