Talk me off the ledge
Okay I am once again thinking of selling my 987 Spyder....
I love the car and the way it drives for sure.
But I am starting to consider a change.....
Keep in mind I have other cars, one of them is a 991.2 GT3 touring, so I am also trying to see what car fits well and compliments the ones I have.
Some cars I was considering:
1. 981 Spyder... likely wont go this route because I think I prefer the look and feel of the 987. BUT I am still considering it...although prices don't seem reasonable to me at this point and I have not seen the right color combination that I really love on that car..
2. 2020-21 BMW M2 Competition 6 speed manual....I haven't driven but everything I read is that this is the essence of an M car. I have owned an E90 M3 and and F80 with manual trans. I liked both cars but didnt love them.
The M2 has back seats which is something I don't have on my other fun cars and it would be cool to be able to take my son with me for fun rides sometimes. So that adds a lot of weight in favor of this....
3. New M3 with 6 speed.....least likely but I am intrigued by this car. I HATED the look at first but I don't dislike it now.....
New car, practical, and probably pretty capable. But I have an assortment of cars so I don't NEED a 4 door. But I dislike the M4....
4. open to other ideas possibly....
Again, keep in mind I have other cars so I am looking for something different than what I have but would make a nice addition and compliment the cars I have now.

I recently bought a 2011 Spyder. I also own a ‘99 996 and recently sold a ‘78 928. I thought about the M2C many times but the Spyder had been calling my name for years. I don’t regret the purchase decision one bit (even with the recent rise in Spyder values). I personally couldn’t imagine giving up my Spyder to buy what you have listed, but to each their own.

And the crowd down below the ledge, on the street, are all chanting: Jump, jump, jump. You see, 987.2 Spyders seem to have disappeared from the market. No one is selling. And there are at least one or three potential buyers down in the midst of that crowd. News at 6.

Scratch the M3. Face only a mother could love, large, heavy (albeit very capable) - I think it'd be a poor replacement for a 987 Spyder if you like small and nimble.
I'd consider the M2C, but you may be rather annoyed at the 11 gallon fuel tank, and if you didn't like the F80, what makes you think you'll like the F87 aside from the fact it has a backseat?

I knew there would be some who would encourage me to jump for the very reason of wanting to find a good one for sale since they are so hard to find with the right options.
Maclaren 720 or 765... more car than needed and truthfully not willing to spend that much. Huracan is basically like my R8 but attracts too much attention which I don't want.

I did like the F80 - I just didnt love it.
I liked the motor to be honest and the 6 spd gearbox wasnt too bad.
I figured the F87 would take what I liked about the F80 and make it smaller and more fun.
One big factor is the back seats - my 2.5yo son LOVES cars and yet he cant ride in any of the fun ones I have because they are all 2 seaters.
He literally asks to go out in my garage EVERY DAY and wants to sit in and look at the cars. His favorite is the "BlueGT" as he has come to call it (my blue gt3 touring). He has good taste.
I also thought about a 997.2 GTS since they have back seats but they are over $110k or better and I just don't think they are worth that - but I haven't driven a 997.2 GTS so maybe they are?
I wish I could add the M2 comp and keep the others but my wife would kill me. And that means at least one car would need to park outside.
I think 3 fun cars is really my limit. Besides, I don't use them enough as it is. But having back seats would likely enable me to use it more rather than take the Range Rover or my wifes e-tron GT anytime I have my son.
Now if I could talk her into selling the etron GT (which I just bought her hahaha) and get the new M3 that might be an idea....but highly doubt she would go for that.
And yes the front end is a face only a mother can love....but I dont hate it as much as I did at first...

I won’t talk you off the ledge…rather guide you … get off the ledge keep the gen 1 Spyder end of the consideration…the overall package and presentation it doesn’t get much better and when you look at your other members in the stable who has it better than you and you know what they say … 3rd time is the charm

There is a device to switch off passengers airbag. Put in a childseat and your son can ride the spyder with you. Or he will have to wait a year or so (which will pass in no time).
which of you other cars did you actually like so much you bought the same one three times over???

Gotta agree with the crowd here. The cars you listed are strictly worse then the 987 beside the 981. If I was in your shoes I'd consider trying something outside of Germany since your whole garage is basically that.(beside the Range)
Some thoughts:
Lexus LC
Ferrari Cali
Nissan GTR
AM Vantage
Alfa 4C
Corvette C8
Skyline R32-R34
Acura NSX
Dodge Viper
Dodge Hellcat redeye
Good luck fun decision to make!

Matt, this is your THIRD Spyder...you keep selling and regretting and coming back. Buy an M2 if you want, fun car. Buy a 981 Spyder if you want, fantastic car. But don't sell the 987!!!

Do not get a BMW. That is a company that has completely lost its way. And, yes, I have driven them. Hideous designs across the board. And they have completely diluted and ruined the M badge. It used to mean something, not any longer. I am sure that you have heard the cliche, M used to mean Motorsports, now it just means Marketing. X6M anyone?

how about an evora gt for a change? they have (tiny)backseats that can be used with carseat if no one is sitting at passenger seat. Or just take it easy & drive your son around with one of the boosters that fit the buckets
