Does anyone make a light weight clamshell?

The fairly large painted part that goes over the top of the soft top.
And I would expect they are available from whoever makes fiberglass and carbon body panels, but since the Spec Boxster class doesn't allow them to be changed, this Spec Boxster subforum may not be the best place to ask. OP, you may have more success asking in the general racing/DE section, the modifications section, or the mode specific forums.

I was able to achieve a several pound weight savings by removing all the actuating hardware, sliders, mounting bolts, etc. I also removed most of the clam shell's under-side sheet metal webbing. I have it secured in place with four 6mm bolts. I used plastic tubing spacers to get the gaps and seams to align properly.

Does it still meet the Spec class requirements?

Sound like the interior rules would apply. That means since it's not welded in it's fair game to remove.
Others have pointed out that it's nice to be able to quickly open it (with the unpowered stock setup), but careful fastener selection for the mounting brackets might make it pretty easy.

I have the stock lid now held in place with dzus fasteners. I lift it straight off for access to the engine cover and it is pretty heavy. It is not a spec box however.
