Default Power Steering

just wondering here (as usual).
I raced my car last weekend, and had a big "off" in qualifying.
Didn't crash or anything, but bounded through the grass and broke the power steering lines, all the fluid drained and it went heavy.
But, I still raced it, in a 30 minute sprint. Not too bad, actually.
However, now I'm being told that I could seize the pump or melt the reservoir, as it relies upon the fluid for lubrication.
Makes sense to me, anyone comment on this?

I'm no expert, but running a steering pump empty will probably destroy it.

You can count on it being destroyed. You can repair the lines and refill the power steering, then see if it works normal without noise.

It will likely be toast. It's not just for lubrication, the fluid also acts as a coolant/heat sink.

I have a spare rack if you want it. Will be at the Glen April 30 so could ship it out from upstate NY for you.

Definitely toasted. I have seen the plastic connectors on the steering lines melt when there is no cooler added

Possible the rack too? If so I'll need that spare.
Can I just eliminate power and convert to manual?

You would definitely destroy the pump. The rack wouldn't be an issue. They can run without any fluid in them.

I don't believe that would be legal to convert to manual steering in the SPB class.
