Default Securing clam shell post soft top removal?

Once the soft top and associated gearbox and motor are removed how are you securing the clam top?

Any suggestions or pictures would be helpful.

Thank you.

My roof skin is attached to the cage with Dsuz fasteners and keeps the clamshell in-place. No movement from the clamshell at all.

@jerome951 Thank you. I should have provided more detail in that its a stock hard top and I have no cage yet. Im still working through time trial and Im not at the cage point. I assume then my hardtop should do the same job of holding the clam shell down.

?id you remove the transmissions for the soft top? if so is your clamshell attached to anything at all or just held in place. Thanks for the name of those attachments.

Mine is a stripped race car; only the slider mechanism on the clamshell remains so I can manually raise & lower it.

I will have to let others advise if the stock hardtop will hold it secure.

I removed the entire mechanism and all the sliders that held the convertible top clamshell in place.

The clamshell is now held in place with 4 long stainless 4 mm screws with stainless trim washers and lock nuts. I used short rubber hoses to get the clamshell panel to line up with the body.

Was easy and saved maybe 2 lbs.

Screws sound good!
Can confirm that after removing the entire mechanism the stock hardtop keeps the clamshell in place, but I'm worried the clamshell will be able to move and decapitate me in a crash - the front points of the clamshell look like a scythe to me. I'm still working out how to latch it from the inside. I would like to avoid drilling all the way through to avoid water ingress. It rains a lot here.

would you post pics?

I’m going to remove the engine and transmissions but would like to keep the bits that let it move up and down manually.

thank you, this is the same thought I had. Was worried about a loose sheet of metal when I crash.

Default Clam shell fasteners

Sorry for the dust. There is a possibility that water could leak into the passenger compartment, but I have not ever had that problem.

The height of the rear of the clam shell is established by an adjustable factory spacer. The front height is established by a short piece of fuel hose sandwiched between the clam shell and the body.

As for getting injured by the clamshell in a crash, my cage is between my body and the clam shell.

Thank you for the pictures! Your solution looks like a good intermediary with my hard top to prevent the clam shell from moving. Yes, cage will come asap. Thanks again.

The cage will likely block it, and panels will likely be ejected, but those scythe-points are slim and you never know!
