So... Several years ago I had Spec Boxster built on a low mile chassis. To make a long story short and skipping the tales of drama and woe, for the past several years I've had a built Spec Box sitting in my garage short a drivetrain. Life took me in a few different directions over the years away from the track so I didn't worry about it much, but now I'm looking at getting back into HPDE thing and knowing me, most likely, eventually racing.
I've got a Spec E46 candidate car already, but keep looking at the Boxster wondering what direction to take it - sell it or get it back up and running. it seems like over the past several years, Spec Box compliant motors and transmissions have gotten a lot harder to find.
Anyway, I'm looking for some suggestions on either a) where to source a fully dressed engine and transmission or b) the best place to sell the chassis.
Alternatively (and maybe this is out of bounds for this subforum)... I also have a complete 987.2 2.9 and manual transmission in the garage. Obviously not spec compliant, but I've been wondering if they'd drop in the Box chassis without too much hassle just for track day duty... any recommends for SoCal shops for that kind of work would be appreciated.

more than likely mechanically it would drop in. However the electronics would not.
the SPB is a mechanical throttle, while the 2.9 is drive by wire.
the 2.9 will have a different dme

I can't help you with sourcing an engine & transmission but if you're interested in selling the chassis shoot me a message.

I've had good luck buying 986's off of copart. My race car was a repo that I paid $3,999 for and have been thrashing for the the past 4 years without having to rebuild either engine or trans. I also bought a '98 986 with only 54K miles on the clock that was crashed ($2,650). I was able to easily fix the front end that was hit and the car is now my daily driver. I will be pulling that 2.5 engine and trans soon to keep as a replacement for my race car and will be putting in a 3.2L with 6 speed trans into that daily driver.

Selling it is certainly on the table. Bear in mind I'm in SoCal, so delivery will be an issue. Will send a PM later (never PM'd on this platform even though I've been lurking for a decade!).
