Default Clutch grinding

I’ll make this short.

motor dropped. Maintenance done.
bought all new flywheel and clutch
yes the clutch disc is facing out gearbox side out. Motor would not rotate. Dropped trans.
fork came off the pivot. Broke the pivot plastic tip. So fork had wedged in there preventing motor from rotating. Installed new one. New slave. Bled. Installed trans went in like butter.
motor rotates and starts. Runs perfect.
push the clutch and and grinding. Shut it off.
I have no idea what’s happening.

I hate to be thee Devil's Advocate, but when you sa you bolted up the Transmisssion and the Engine was Locked up/ wouldn't turn, now a strange noise, the first thing that comes to mind is what could be damaged by the jammed up Fork between the bell-housing and the pressure plate..... It could have placed off-set pressure on the flywheel and bent or broken the crankshaft...

Hopefully thats not the case, but as a good Boy-Scout, hope for the best but prepare for the worst..

Take it back apart and Inspect again carefully...

first time it was jammed I only tried rotating it by hand. Wouldn’t turn at all. Dropped trans. Reinstalled it and motor runs awesome. Turned off. Pushed clutch in felt weird. Wouldnt start or rotate. Finally started. Pushed clutch in and it grinded. Shut it off.

Fork is rubbing on flex plate. Broke the plastic tip on my new pivot pin again. ( can’t I just buy this plastic tip? ).
bought a new fork. This one must be bent?? Still don’t know exactly what’s going on. Might have bent the fork the first time I installed the trans.
or this stack isn’t right. So maybe wrong flywheel? Looks a bit thick which would explain everything.

Not sure if this is thw issue but there is an updated pivot pin. I cant remember when it was changed. There may be a mismatch of parts.

There is only one OE(M) DMS flywheel for the 996, so slim chance you've got an incorrect flywheel that would still fit.
Compare p/n of your purchased flywheel with that listed on any of the parts sites (sponsors).
I'd guess something was misaligned.

The thing is that I’m an idiot. So there’s that.
I had the clutch fork 180 degrees wrong. Guessing that’s the problem.

How much should that pressure plate spring compress in when I tighten the pressure plate bolts? Is that normal?

You should be able to rattle the clutch fork with everything assembled. There should be no preload on the pressure plate fingers.

what’s going on then? I can see the finger sucking in with every turn of the plate bolts.

I believe there should be pre load when tightening the bolts. But how much?

When u tighten the bolts on the preasure plate it loads the center "spring' tabs. The post above is stating that the fork should not put any pressure in the "springs" unless the slave is energised.
