991.1 vs 991.2
Hi, im new to the forum and looking to buy my first porsche. I have it narrowed down somewhat but there is just too much to read.
so im asking the people that know which is the better car, best value, bang for the buck, better resale value, basically what does everyone like better the 991.1 or the 991.2?
its probably going to be a carrera S or a GTS, would you buy the newer 3.0 twin or stick with the 3.6-3.8?
also im not sure about RWD or AWD? RWD seems like less maintenance? but AWD may corner better?
and help would be greatly appreciated
PS i might be able to swing a 992.1 but that would be a stretch

Agreed that you should probably just drive both. The turbo cars will feel faster around town, and are honestly probably the better choice for most people. I just recently got a 991.1 C2S with MT, from an E46 M3; that I like NA spinners seems self-evident.
Unless you intend to drive in low-grip (really snow / ice) I don’t see why one would really want an AWD model (wide body shell is cool though). That’s also a matter of preference.

Another factor to consider is if you plan on tuning the car. (or even consider doing it down the road, if not now)
Usually turbo-charged engines have more room to tweak (991.2), versus NA engines (991.1).
Style wise I like 991.2's steering wheel better.

Yeah, you need to read more. My issue with 991.2 and beyond is that you will always get better with future turbos that improve on it. Tech on tech. For the 991.1, much like the air cooled gen, will always be the last of the naturally aspirated. Add to that, the wider backend stance of the 4.. and S if you like that... and a manual transmission... you have a future gem that you will have fun with and easy resell value.
Both are great cars and both are better than the 992. They deliver power in vastly different ways. If you are not a motorhead you will probably prefer the .2 but the only way to know is by driving.
For what it's worth I was set on buying a 991.2 Carrera S last year, I test drove it and was a bit underwhelmed. I was coming from a lightly modified Giulia Quadrifoglio and previously an F80 M3
Later that day someone traded in a 991.1 Carrera 4S. I came back the next day and I knew immediately it was for me.
The NA sound w/PSE, fast revving, manual, and wide body made all the difference. The car also had a ducktail and that was a big bonus. While I would prefer RWD, the AWD hasn't been bothersome to me yet.
Definitely test drive both and see what you like.

I drove a lot of cars before buying my 2017 .2
the biggest thing in general for me that was a surprise was the seats. Sit in them all, it’s very height/body shape dependent.
Beyond that, my personal conclusion for my use was, .1 sounds better. .2 is better at everything else, especially low end (streetable) torque, tech, infotainment and tunability.

These are both awesome cars. You really can’t go wrong with either. I think it comes down to options you’re looking for. The other thing is all 991.1 are NA so have a slightly different or better sound depending on your tastes but the 991.2 turbo has much better power low down and I feel more usable on the street. About the steering wheel above, I agree but can be upgraded. I almost bought a 991.1 2016 GTS but found a 2018 991.2 GTS with essentially a dream sheet for me. One other thing is if you have to have CarPlay, you need the 991.2 but to me that’s a minor issue.
I've had both a manual 991.2 T and a manual 991.1 S. I wrote a detailed comparison here:https://rennlist.com/forums/991/1418...l#post19510357
I sold the .2 and kept the .1. For me it's a weekend and nice weather car that I autocross regularly.
