Thanks to this forum I began learning about the biggest risk to these cars is bore scoring. i still don't quite understand the history and why is it only these cars in the world have it. but i'm grateful because i asked my mechanic to do the check with the camera and below are the results. And i learn about that check/control on this very forum.
the mechanics conclusion was : yes there is bore scoring. it isnt a surprise. it isnt "bad" . i can continue driving the car and oil change to be done every 10K KM and check with the camera at each of these intervals.
Look drive it till it pops
in the mean time use a good oil like driven DI40 and make sure your injectors/plugs are new
drive it hard at temperature regularly
enjoy the blasts
look for a reputable builder or replacement engine
Switch to Driven oil
Install a low temp thermostat
Install a magnetic drain plug and oil filter attachment
Increase frequency of oil changes to 7000-8000 km
Drive and enjoy. You’ve got a lot of life left in the engine.
Your mechanic knows what he is talking about. It doesn't look bad. If you never heard of there being an issue and did not investigate, would you have ever discovered this? My guess is no. Just drive it, add oil if needed. If oil consumption gets out of control (too much smoke for you, too much consumption for you), then send this post to the top again. My guess is that you could drive your car for 10's of thousands of miles like it is.

not sure if its just me but that looks to be close to no bore scoring/very normal amounts for a healthy engine. plenty of life left as others have mentioned I wouldnt even think about it
i only knew about what to check via this forum and how to check it. thank you as this is what i plan to do. this is my daily driver. and its such a pleasure to drive.
Yeah, I don't think you can tell anything from those pics. Even a healthy engine will have some burnishing of the cylinder walls. In the absence of any issues like smoking or burning significant oil I'd just drive it.
The "scope it every 10k km" thing from your mechanic makes no sense. What exactly is that supposed to do for you? If it gets worse you'll know from other symptoms, and it's not like you can do anything if it's scored (besides wait until it's bad enough to need a rebuild).
This site'll make you paranoid about bore scoring. Just drive the car, change the oil regularly, and use a bottle of injector cleaner say once a year.
Why o why do folk ask their mechanic to peer into the bores of these cars when there’s no need to? Do you want to be kept awake at night until you’ve dropped 5 figures into the car to stand still, more if you want more powarrr. Sadly you’ve gone there - regardless of what folk say, you’ll worry about this now. Sorry.
I’ve got a 3.6 with 136k miles. No oil usage, no smoke on start up, no ticking, no soot - I just drive it. I’ve also got a 3.8 with Borescore, tippy tappy piston slap, soot, the works, but I drive it hard. When it breaks I’ll fix it.
If you don't already do so, get used oil analysis from SPEEDiagnostix at every oil change so that you have data and can indentify trends (I would change the engine oil every 3K).
