718/982 Steering Wheel Upgrade
I recently upgraded my steering wheel on my 987 Boxster Spyder to the 718/982 style. Install was super easy. Disconnected the battery for 20 mins, removed the old wheel and installed the new one. Torqued the main bolt to 37 ft-lbs and reconnected the connectors. Part number for the new wheel starts with 982.
No issues with the install but now my airbag light is on. Anyone know if any coding is required for the 718/982 steering wheels in the 987s?
New and old steering wheels.

Went for a test drive and all systems seemed to have reset except for the airbag. Disconnected the battery again, waited 20 mins, removed the airbag and double-checked and reseated the connectors. Reinstalled the airbag, reconnected the battery and went for a test drive to reset the systems.
Airbag light is still on. Any suggestions?

Generally, disconnecting the battery prior stops this issue from happening. However, there are plenty of threads with the same issue you are having.

If you don't have a diag tool that can reset the light, it might be the best option just to go to the local Porsche indy/main and they will likley fix it pretty quick. Or, it might be time to invest in one othe the tools mentioned, gl

I took it to my local Porsche dealer and had them troubleshoot. They were getting a different DTC code: 8007. They cleared it and it came back.
I reverted back to my Porsche OEM wheel and I’m still getting the airbag light. I think it’s the clock spring, so I ordered a new one. Hope it fixes the issue.

Just an update. A few weeks ago, I replaced the clock-spring and it still didn’t fix the issue. I took it back to the Porsche dealer and they couldn’t figure it out either. They ran diagnostics tests and stated that everything checks out fine and the computer shows the airbag should work but couldn’t see why the light is on nor could they clear it.

That importeant note above is from the details here - https://www.suncoastparts.com/product/SKU991CFWD.html
That wheel works fine in my 987.2 but it had Multifunction-Function radio controls prior to installing.
