Default Forest Green Metallic 997.1 C2 - A build thread

I thought that it would be better to open a thread and keep track of what I did to my car instead of posting here and there and resurrecting old threads

I'm based in Barcelona, Spain, and in January I blindly bought a car from an island called Mallorca. It was a cheap car so I took the risk and bought it before being able to inspect it. I flew there, got the car and brought it back home by ferry the same day. The risk paid off as the car is solid, but wasn't looked after. Nothing I can't fix, and I love a project car more than a pristine condition one.

At its new home

2005 911 Carrera 2 in Forest Green Metallic. 141.000km (~87.000 miles). I'm the second owner. Options include (sorry, in Spanish):

I drove it straight to my mechanic and he performed the following operations:

- Replaced spark plugs for NGK Iridium ones
- Replaced oil (5W40 Castrol Edge)
- Replaced oil filter
- Replaced transmission fluid (Motul Gear 300 75W90)
- Replaced coolant reservoir (it was leaking)
- Replaced Poly belt
- Replaced pulleys

- Replaced a leaky (and expensive) coolant pipe
- Replaced brake fluid (Motul RBF660)
- Added steel brake lines
- Replaced brake pads for Ferodo DS2500
- Replaced worn engine mounts with Function First
- Replaced the thermostat for a low temperature one
- Replaced the water pump
- Bomba de Agua
- Flushed the coolant (G12 Evo)

With all this done, I feel I have a good base car to start working on. I'ts not perfect by any means, I still need to replace the clutch and other various things, but at least I can drive it for a bit without worrying.

Stuff I've done as of today:

When I first opened the sun visor, the cover of the mirror fell on my lap as the plastic melted:

I was going to order a genuine Porsche one until I saw the price:

So I resorted to Aliexpress

30 second fix

Lots of the plastics were very worn so I gave them a bit of Meguiars love:

Also installed the auto headlights mod from 997Research:

Replaced the fog lights for a set of 991-style DRLs:

And the side markers, too. These are a set of Audi-style sequential lights that I'm still not sure if I like:

Got my cat to approve the jobs I was doing on the car, she said all looks ok:

And I installed a Macan steering wheel together with the steering wheel column from a 997.2 that supports the multifunction:

I have an issue with the steering wheel as it rubs on the steering column when doing 90 degree turns and it's driving me crazy. I really need to fix it but I'd rather not take everything apart again.

This is how it sounds like: https://i.imgur.com/l598ylb.mp4

And I found an old thread with exactly the same issue: https://rennlist.com/forums/991/1360...s-rubbing.html

I'll need to look into it but very happy with the new wheel otherwise.

Stuff that's pending:

Fister mod on a stock exhaust that I found for cheap and spent a week cleaning up:

Before

After

Install 200-cell cats and equal length headers that I got from TopGear UK:

And most importantly, I need to drive it and take some good pics of it! Haven't even driven it 200km since I got it and I hope this weekend I can fix that.

Wow, looks like you had a clear plan and are executing it!

Congratulations, love the colour - don’t see Green 997’s too often.

Great looking car, congratulations! Is that your MX-5, too? Looks like a Mazdaspeed turbo, with tinted headlights? I have a couple of those, also!

I wish! We didn’t get the Mazdaspeed in Spain. It’s a Phoenix edition I spent 10 years modifying:

Great to see how you're improving this car. And quite a unique color as well!

If you experience notchiness in the shifting, please note that many consider that Mobilube PTX is best when changing the transmission oil.

Congratulations! That porsche racing green metallic is stunning! I have a 997.2 in the same color.

Thanks for sharing!

Finished polishing the headlights today.

Quite the difference!

Not perfect but this’ll do until I get the Morimotos:

Nice work cleaning up the headlights. What was your approach to that?

200-400-800-1200-2000 sand grit and then some kind of polymer kit. I think it works by melting the outer plastic layer:

Yep! I saw a couple of posts on FB explaining how to remove the buttons from the front and tried my luck - it went well as the plastic was so cooked that I was able to bend it and pull quite easily.
